I read Holly E. Ordway's DVD review of The Lion in Winter (2004) at http://www.dvdtalk.com/reviews/read.php?ID=12024 and...

This movie was shown on Showtime-HD in widescreen- It was clearly shot that way, not 4:3 like the DVD. Why it was released this way is a mystery...

That's horrible! (That it was cut, not that it was originally widescreen). I had assumed, since it was made for US TV and gave *no* indication anywhere on the packaging that it had been pan and scanned, that 1.33:1 was the original aspect ratio... despite some bad framing at various times. I'll go and change the review to reflect this. Ugh!
