any chance nfl.com will be offering a service like MLB.TV? MLB.TV has been the best money i have spent all year (much better quality than I had expected) and I wish other sports would follow suit...
anyone know if the exclusive DirectTV contract would not allow them to run a service like this? That's what I'm guessing... damn DTV and damn exclusive contracts!

Actually, it is their contracts with FOX and CBS that probably preclude it just like they preclude PPV (Sunday Ticket) on cable through 2005.
As for your general sentiment, I am with you on that.

Entirely different contract, so you should not expect anything similar.
The NFL has contracts with FOX and CBS that specifically preclude the NFL from marketing or contracting with 3rd parties for PPV/subscription broadcasts of out-of-market games on cable television through 2005. I assume that there is also a clause for any out-of-market broadcasts either over Internet or outside of satellite.
The NFL has a contract with D-TV for the exclusive satellite rights to broadcast the subscription package for out-of-market games through 2007.

so if DTV is just for satelite, why does TimeWarner Digital Cable not offer a football package?

People will flip around more during commericials if they have access to 5 or 6 other games - that's why they care. Also, there is the issue of local commercials that run during games. The satellite market is far smaller so it hasn't been that big of an issue on that side yet.

ahh makes sense i guess.
NFL should just screw them all. not renew their contracts and broadcast all their games through 10 NFLTV channels, then sell that to the providers...
