I've got a fantasy football draft tonight and there's a good chance I'll be deciding between Trent Green and Marc Bulger in the 3rd round. It's a league where you get 6 pts for TD passes so I want to have a top QB. So who do I grab?

I'd take McNabb over either of these guys. I'm just expecting him to bo gone.

You could probably get better value taking a WR or RB instead of a QB.

Trent Green. I think he is one of the most underrated QBs in fantasy and real football.
How many teams in this league? If only 10, 3rd round sounds too soon for one of these guys. If 12, probably not.

Trent Green took me all the way to the league championship last year.

12 teams, 2nd pick in 1st and 3rd rounds.

That's too high then. I don't have either of these guys in the top-30 overall, even in a generous scoring system for QBs. I really don't see much difference btwn the 4th or 5th best QB and the 9th or 10th QB - you can basically get almost the same level of QB with that late 4th or early 5th round pick.

Take Brady or Pennington in round 5. They will both be there at number 50. Green may be also. But round 3 is too high for Green or Bulger.

The alternatives would be to take a 3rd RB like Stephen Davis or a WR not in the top 3. There is a flex spot in this league so if there's a strong RB I'd have to consider it, but I've got too many ?s about TO (offense doesn't produce star WRs) and Chad Johnson (rookie QB) to take them.

I would definitely go for a Stephen Davis, particularly if you can start 3 RBs, over those QBs. I would also rank Owens and C.Johnson over those QBs.
Look at it this way - will you find WRs near that caliber at your next pick? No. Will you find RBs near the caliber of Davis at your next pick? Definitely not. Will you find QBs the caliber of Green or Bulger at the next pick? Most likely.

What is your starting roster? Chad Johnson or TO would be much better than taking a Trent Green or Marc Bulger.

I would pick bulger in the 6th round...

I voted Bulger, but of course I'm biased as he was the star QB at WVU while I was doing my undergrad there. :D

Owens is already a star WR, so no worries there ;)
As for your original question: last year Green threw for more yards, more TD's, 10 fewer INT's, has a better arm, and has the 1st or 2nd best offensive line in the league in front of him.
Either way, both QB's have an average draft position around late 5/early 6 (I just got Green at 5.05 in a 14-team league), so picking one in the 3rd is gonna really cost you value at another position

It's a no brainer, take Green. But not in the 3rd round...

For what it's worth, I'm in a 12 team league and Bulger was the 63rd Pick, I got Green with the 72nd pick.

In mock drafts at http://www.antsports.com over the last week, the average 12-team draft position of Trent Green has been 68th and Bulger 71st. In fact the highest position either was taken was at 55. Granted, the QB scoring is a little deflated, but that should still tell you that picking either at 26 overall is a huge reach.

if you are going to take a qb that high, take manning or Culpepper, otherwise wait until the 5th and take Green or Pennington, or even Hasselbeck. Bulger will not finish the season imho. he's going to get destroyed in St Louis behind that line and spend way too much time running for his life to be throwing too many touchdowns. so skip bulger, and draft Jeff Smoker in the final round instead ;)

I think Manning is usually gone before mid 2nd round, but sometimes Culpepper can slip to the 3rd if McNabb and Vick get taken before him. You'd have to take him if he slipped that far. I'd put Hasselbeck behind those guys and just ahead of Trent Green. Hasselbeck could have a huge season if his receivers quit dropping passes.

That looks pretty good for a 12-team league. Only apparent weakness is WR - a little thin.

My draft, 12 teams 18 rounds:
P. Holmes
H. Ward
T. Owens
L. Coles
J. Walker
T. Green
L. Suggs
B. Lloyd
Philly D
A. Vinatieri
B. Franks
L. Jordan
J. Fargas
D. Bledsoe
Atlanta D
J. Hall
T. Pinkston
T. Brown
Since then, I dropped J. Fargas and picked up M. Anderson. Then I dropped T. Brown and picked up V. Testaverde. I figure he's worth a risk. If he can play with Keyshawn under Parcells like they played in NY, it'll be a great FA pickup.

Does your league only start 1 RB?

Yeah my only regret is Josh Brown over Andre Davis but I was just on such a roll I thought he'd be there next round. We all know some random WR will be a hot pickup in the 1st few weeks and I'll drop a K for him.

Well, this morning (or last night) on Sportscenter, they recommended Trent Green, so I'd go with Bulger. They almost never know what they're talking about.

2 RB and 1 WR/RB.
Yeah, I'm a little thin there.
I'll start Holmes and Suggs and throw in M. Anderson if he earns it.
