Anyone watch that? They booed so long the judges decided to give him a higher score (still not high enough). Then Hamm does an average job and gets a higher score. Then some other dude goes lights out, and ties HamHamm loses tie breaker).
It wasn't even close. Nemov did the second best routine of the night, hands down. Totally screwed.

Yep, and it's probably his last Olympics. He's a true gymnastics legend and should have went out with at least the silver, which he completely deserved, but instead got nothing. The two judges who screwed him over must have been watching someone else's routine. I felt sorry that Hamm had to go after the audience went nuts, but the booing was appropriate and hopefully ridiculous mistakes like this won't happen in the future. But I'm sure they probably will

IMO Nemov should have won gold. I thought his routine was marginally better than Cassina's.

Cassina stuck his landing better. Nemov should have gotten silver, IMHO.
Good lord, I can't believe I'm discussing men's gymnastics.

Yeah, that was pathetic, a 9.6 by the Canadian judge? whatever, 9.8 would be too low IMO Nemov certainly handled it the right way though, told the crowd to quiet down so Hamm could do his routine I thought that was a classy move.

Just for the sake of argument, consider that the judging throughout this competition has placed a premium on sticking the landing. He was just another in a long list of competitors to try something new or do something difficult and not get rewarded as much as penalized for the landing. The same thing happened with the women. Although I thought his routine was pretty damn cool, it's not like he was singled out. The judges were relatively consistent in this area.

Tell that to the Canadian who finished 4th in the vault after the Romanian who finished 3rd missed his landing, took 3 steps, put both hands down and ended up with one foot completely outside the mat and yet managed to get a miraculous score of 9.31
I guess that "relatively consistant" is somewhat correct with the emphasis being on "relatively". :)

Like I said in another thread, he didn't really get screwed. Ivankov in Rings finals, now he got screwed.

Tell that to the Canadian ...
That's another rule: Canadians don't count. I didn't mention it because I thought it was obvious.

No one stuck the landing last night, so this is irrelevant.

It was a really close competition and if Nemov hadn't taken such a big step, he probably would've won. He did have the worst landing of the top 5.

To play devil's advocate a bit, I will say this. All the athletes last night in the high bar were supposed to be the "best of the best". They all probably had 10.0 or 9.9 start values. All of them basically hit their routines except the landings. Some routines, like the Russian's and the Italian's were amazing. But in terms of difficulty, they were awarded no more points. So maybe there is some sense in the judging.
That being said, I clearly preferred the Russian and the Italian to any of the performances. I would have given them the top two medals, but then again I'm no gymnast expert.
