While I think the original MK is the best video game movie- we dont really want him touching the series again do we?
Word is Russel Mulcahy of Highlander fame will be helming part 3 and both Robin Shou and Christopher Lambert (among a few other original MK castmembers) are on board.
Cross your fingers people- we might have a fun film on our hands (in comparison to the disaster that was Annhilation)

Best Video Game Movie Ever?
Are you sure? It's got some pretty good competition.

Russel Mulcahy has directed a lot of shit lately, but he is a much better director than say Paul W.S. Anderson.
And it's not about who directs it, it's about how good the script is.

Best video game movie ever? Possibly, though I still have a thing for Angelina.

Ashby is on board as Johnny Cage as well... which is good since the guy from MK2 sucked total donkey balls... I don't know how they are bringing Cage back from the dead...but should be interesting... hopefully this is better than Mulcahy's recent stuff... and I also echo the R rated sentiments.

I'm actually excited to see a new Mortal Kombat movie. The first one was a fun flick. The second one was too cheese and almost so bad it was funny (i love the explosion with Jax and Sonya leaping). I hope they take a darker and more serious tone with this one

Lawrence Kasanoff & Alison Savitch won't let this franchise die hmm? Between the 2 movies and the failed tv series... just let it go.

Its actually 100% getting a theatrical release, thats been confirmed.
As for letting the franchise die, if they had some real head exploding fatalities this would be QUITE a unique little horror action film and would redeem it (unlike the first which was merely action and the second...uugh) if scripted decently.

--from imdb.com--
After Liu Kang, Sonya, and Jax defeated the forces of Outworld and prevented its merger with Earth, Shang Tsung exacts his revenge by forming an alliance with the powerful sorcerer Quan Chi. Together, they open a portal to Earth in a bid for ultimate domination. Lord Rayden, now an elder god, becomes dismayed by this horrific turn of events and calls forth the warriors of Mortal Kombat once more. Discovering a loophole in the rules of the tournament, and needing every ounce of help he can get, Rayden summons forth the soul of deceased warrior Johnny Cage and resurrects him so that he may join his fellow fighters and send Shang Tsung and his allies back to hell once and for all.

What, was Uwe Boll too busy taking a dump on some other franchise to take the reins?

No, because Mortal Kombat is being produced and financed by New Line. Whereas Uwe Boll's films are financed by rich European bastards.

Oh btw I dont think New Line has control of this one anymore. Apparently Threshold Entertainment was MAJORLY pissed off about MK2 and sat on the property till New Line's rights to the franchise reverted back exclusively to them.

Well, part 2 in this series is literally one of the worst movies I've ever seen. This...again, I echo the sentiment about an R rating. Seriously, without the gore these movies are half what they should be. Considering the gore was perhaps the #1 reason people played the game, I always found it lame it wasn't in the movie. This ain't high art give us what we want to see!
Nonetheless, this can't be worse than annhilation. That's just like impossible.

Anyone want to take a gander at my Temple of Apshai script? I wrote it in 1981, but the liquid paper swashes are still pretty fresh.

the first one was really good, second was really awful. hopefully, it has the same tone as the first with ashby who was the star of the first. it can't be any worse than street fighter, super mario bros, or MKII, or resident evil.

Mortal Kombat is popular again. The series made a comeback in 2002 with Deadly Alliance, and the latest game is set for an October release.
