Bubba ho-tep bootleg

I bought bubba off ebay. I think it's a bootleg. First off the cover has a big dts logo over the top and a dts9 circular symbol in the corner. The disk is even weirder. It has the 20th century fox logo and no mgm logo. Was it distrubited by fox over seas?

I didn't think this movie was even worth bootlegging!

I'm not putting down the movie, I just think it's exposure is limited.

I know what you mean, but I think anything which sells well on E-bay will be bootlegged unless it's prohibitive (I'm thinking of flippers like the Criterion 'Spinal Tap' or the recalled 'Little Shop'). And I'd bet it's precisely that limited exposure which makes the movie harder to find in stores, thus pushing fans to E-bay.

To the OP, that does sound like a bootleg, but I don't have my copy in front of me to check.

It was released by MGM, with no DTS logos anywhere on the front cover...

Sounds like a bootleg.

Yeah it's a definite bootleg. Tried all the behind the scenes, the music video, they all lead to a basic trailer (john travolta flick).

Figured no one would be bootleginf this dvd but i guess they are bootleging everything possible.

It's common for asian bootlegs to have "DVD9" on them. Good for you to chase this down - there's nothing lower than someone selling a bootleg (if that's indeed what's happened).

Was there not a picture in the auction? Usually between a picture and specs, its pretty easy to pick out a bootleg...I know Ive never made the mistake of buying one (not on Ebay at least).

Yeah there was a picture in the auction. It was the normal Bubba dvd case that is sold in the US. When i got the dvd the first thing i noticed was the coverart was totally different. The case didn't match the picture.

anyone can get a picture of the DVD they are selling. all it takes is a visit to a site like amazon and so on. I mean if someone is low enough to sell bootlegs, it should show on their feedback.

A bootleg of Bubba Hotep might be a rare collectors item. Maybe you should keep it.

Hey, I'm a newbie to this site and was looking at what you said about buying the bootleg version of the DVD on ebay. I actually own the dvd from a site that i frequently buy from called www.MyOwnSite.com. They have it for $17.99. Can you actually watch the version you got? It's a funny movie and in my opinion, it's worth buying the real version.
