EDIT: added update to include full-screen info :yack:

from dvd answers:

We've now managed to obtain further details on Spider-Man 2 which stars Tobey Maguire, Kirsten Dunst and Alfred Molina. As we have already reported, the film will be available to own from the 30th November this year. The giftset will include the two-disc edition along with a new miniature reproduction of The Amazing Spider-Man #50 comic book (in which Peter Parker decides to give up his alter ego) five postcards and a twenty-five page portfolio featuring well-known comic book artists' works inspired by the film. The retail price for this will be around $49.95. We've attached the full specs for the standard release below, along with the artwork.

So the Superbit release is going to be released the same day as the standard edition?

Yep.

Spidey 2 double disc appears to be better than Spidey 1s, but I'm just getting the Superbit. I know everything on Spidey anyway.

If this Superbit is as great as the Superbit for the first Spider-Man, I'll gladly take it over the two disc set.

Hmmm.. I wasn't a huge fan of Spidey 2, but if the documentary is exceptional I will consider picking it up. Besides if I like the third movie I can't very well go without 2...

Not a big fan of that particular poster used for the cover art. Oh well, 2 disc for me!

Hmmm I'll probably buy the superbit and rent the 2 disc

I wouldn't start celebrating yet.....

Looks good, I'll probably just pick up the super-bit release.

And when did they start "announcing" easter eggs? Doesn't that defeat the whole purpose of an easter egg?

Spiky

So, they still don't get it, huh?? It's so easy. Will no studio even ATTEMPT to challenge the LOTR DVD releases for status of best ever?

PUT THE HIGH A/V QUALITY WITH THE EXTRAS!!! We (those who buy silly, huge gift sets and discuss DVD announcements on the web) are the people who are most likely to care about BOTH!

Guess I'll have to decide which to get, this isn't worth getting 2 versions.

2.40:1 - is that right? Spidey 1 was 1.85:1. Just curious...

Spider-Man WS has the "WIDESCREEN SPECIAL EDITION" banner in red and the FS in orange. Now Spider-Man 2 seems to have the color reversed. Deliberate or screw-up?

The extras on the first Spidey weren't all that great IMO, so I think it's the Superbit edition for me as well.

The link does mention and show a full screen edition, its just that the OP rightfully neglected to mention that. ;)

I'll get the Superbit one (very nice to see it's coming out day and date with the other edition  ). I would like to hear the Raimi commentary, but most of the other extras are probably mostly fluff. I liked that poster art and am glad to see it being used on the DVD (hopefully it doesn't get changed)

I may consider both the 2-disc and the Superbit...I have the 2-disc for Spiderman now...Im actually wondering if the Superbit release is that much better than the 2-disc. Ive heard that it was, but I couldnt tell if the people saying that were "Superbit snobs" that just buy these regardless or if it really is that much better....anyone?

having learned my lesson about gift sets and having just sold my copy of the original gift set, i will probably be getting the 2 disc version. i like the extras and i can't afford to buy 2 copies of the same title.

For extras sure, the standard version will be better than the Superbit. However, the Superbit will have much better picture and sound, which is what dvd's are all about.

Superbit, what a marketing scam. All they had to do was include the extras on the Superbit also.

Yes, but wouldn't that defeat the purpose of the Superbit line? It was created so that titles could be put out with the absolute best A/V quality possible, and if you lump on all those extras onto the disc then that's just not possible.

I'll go for the Superbit, but sorta wished Columbia would at least fill the superbit disks up. Most of the ones that I have collected are around 6 gigs.

The aspect ratio was changed for Spider-Man 2. Raimi decided to go with 2.35 for the sequel even though he used 1.85 for the first.

Raimi wanted 1.85:1, but DP Bill Pope convinced him to use 2.35:1 for the fact it would be the only way to get Spidey and Doc Ock in the same shot.

That's correct! Raimi wanted a bigger picture for Spider-Man and Doc Ock

and it worked perfectly! S2 used the whole scope ratio to full effect! Bill Pope is a god! After all his extraordinary work on the Matrix Trilogy...he nearly one ups himself on S2...

**Twitch** Me too. I was thinking either or, but now, I am just getting them both. I got both of the first one too, so this is umm, just keeping things even. Yeah, that is it.

It is a good thing I don't like all movies as much as I like some Sam Raimi movies or I would have a house full of double & triple dips.

Superbit for me. Not into extras, but if I really wanted them I could wait a while and then the "limited" box set will be on the Best Buy shelves for $20, just as I've seen a bunch of the S1's last week.
