This is kind of inspired by king kong because a lot of people who were fans of the original are looking forward to Peter Jackson's King Kong.

I mean if they got someone like ang lee, or Yimou Zhang and get woo ping and yo yo ma or something and they followed the story exactly would you want it?

Heh, I actually saw A Bug's Life well before Seven Samurai, and that's exactly what I thought of not too far into the movie.

Yes, MY remake.

Wrote a script treatment once upon a time about knights returning from the crusades. As various smaller nations in Europe had a great deal of their fighting men away, bandits ran rampant with little repercussions. My script was basically about disillusioned knights, who after seeing too much bloodshed in the "holy" land, decided to help out a needy village - some out of honor, some out of feeling that they had yet to accomplish some good, etc.

Yeah, "Seven Samurai" all over again. Big deal, really. Knights in shining armor and a proven, exciting story - what's not to like? You listening, studios?

Remake? No. Re-interpret, like Magnificent 7, Bug's Life, et al. sure, why not? I think I remember John Milius saying something to the effect that there really are only 30 or so different stories and everything is just a variation on one of those.

I am so sick of this. They show leave the classics alone and try for some new movies. To rephase a story by Harlan Ellison, they have been talking about a remake of Forbidden Planet and no matter what happens they have been talking about it over and over. The fact that they can not improve the orginal makes no difference. He suggested they come up with a sequel to one of these guys and gave him a number of good ideas. Two days later the guy was still talking about a remake. Just remember Lopez and Affeck (sp?) wanted to do a remake of Casablanca with them as the leads.

A new anime series, Samurai 7, was just made that was based on Seven Samurai as well. I like the variations of the movie like Magnificent Seven but I think the original should be left alone.

OK here is my take: we set it in modern times. Instead of bandits roaming the countryside the villains will be evil corporations and their CEOs. However, seven common sense politicians begin to revolt against the "system" and swing power back to the citizens by passing legislation against the corporations! And then, aliens attack the planet . . . . and we need a giant spider, people love giant spiders. All of the costumes must have nipples too.

Exactly. I'll never understand why people are so opposed to remakes.

Just don't watch it, or forget it exists and stick with the original if it blows chunks. A remake doesn't change the quality of the original movie.
