I am trying to find (or realize that non exists and create) a complete list of movies that take place in New Jersey. There are number of ways to interoperate that and while and list would be a great starting point what I consider ‘taking place in NJ’ means the story is placed in new jersey. Mall Rats would count since it’s about New Jersey yet not filmed there.

If any one knows of such a list please throw me the link. If not how about trying to help me create a complete list!

Thanks so much guys!

I'm trying to create a list of movies where one or more of the characters speak in English... in complete sentences.

Part of the film was filmed in NJ. Kevin Smith immortalized the US1 Flea Market in New Brunswick before it was demolished and replaced with a Loews multiplex.

I live in Bayville which is a stone's throw from Toms River where part of Amityville Horror and part of X-Files Fight The Future were filmed.

Rob Reiner's "North" has a scene filmed at the Bridgewater Commons Mall.

That Bruce Willis/Demi Morre movie "Mortal Thoughts" was filmed in a number of locations in Northern NJ, one notable location is a small funpark on RT. 22 in Scotch Plains called Bowcraft.

Both Sopranos and Oz were/are filmed in NJ among other places.

Click on "more matches" at the bottom for the rest of the list.

Here's a search for New Jersey in the filming locations:

It's funny that so many of you have given examples of movies shot, either partially or entirely, in New Jersey. The OP specifically asked for movies that take place in New Jersey. Like the upcoming Garden State, methinks.

Just out of curiosity though, why New Jersey? Seems random.

That movie was filmed one block away from my house!

Just off the top of my head:

Most of Kevin Smith's films were filmed in NJ, as well as portions of the Godfather. More recently, Swinfan was filmed in Bayonne, as was A Beautiful Mind, which was also filmed in Jersey City. John Sayles' great film City of Hope was filmed (and takes place) in Hudson County. The DeNiro flick City By The Sea was filmed in Asbury Park. Check out Jersey Films' (Danny DeVito's co.) list of films, many of them were filmed in NJ.

You must be a transplant from the city cause there are no "blocks" in Scotch Plains. Not at least that side of 22.

No, I was referring to scenes in that movie filmed in Bayonne, NJ, which were done a block away from where I lived at the time.

Just because something is filmed in NJ doesn't disqualify it from his search. Checking out the hits from imdb in the filming locations isn't a bad start. There are certainly plenty of films that take place in NJ which don't state so in the plot description.

One interesting omission from the plot summary search at IMDB was Mallrats.

Wise Guys takes place in NJ. As does Atlantic City.

True, but people are literally replying as if the original question was for movies filmed in New Jersey, rather than the ones that take place in New Jersey. Just odd, is all. I'm sure it's a good place to start. I still don't get the big fascination with New Jersey though. Why not ask for movies that take place in Nebraska?
