Turner Classic Movies channel---commercial free question?
Now don't get me wrong. I love TCM.
They seem to show every movie in
OAR, uncut, and commercial free.
Regarding the lack of commercials, I know AOL/Time Warner has lots of money, but what is the insentive for them to do this? TCM is a basic cable channel.
Don't they lose a lot of possible advertising revenue?
After all, TBS and TNT have always had
films edited, Pan & Scan, and with commercials. American Movie Classics used ti be commercial free--not anymore.
I hope TCM doesn't change.

I don't think TCM is always included with basic cable. Up in St. Louis, for example, the yrecently revamped the basic cable lineup. We now get the Fox Movie Channel for free, which shows movies uncut, commercial free, and usually OAR. However, TCM is either premium or only on digital basic. (We haev analog in the dorms)
In Dallas, we get TCM with analog basic but no Fox.
Either way, the cable companies have to pay to broadcast a certain channel. So even without commercials, they still make money.

Basic cable networks get a certain $ amount from cable companies based on the number of households their channel reaches. That's part of the reason your cable bill is so high.

I've had cable forever, and TCM has never ben part of the basic package, from ATT through Comcast. When ATT converted to digital I was forced to take the more expesive package ithat included TCM, since TCM wasn't available a la carte. So TCM gets a few cents from the higher tier cable packages, it is still my favorite station by far.
