you beat me to the chase.....

Director Robert Altman will again team up with Doonesbury cartoonist Garry Trudeau to produce a three-episode sequel to Tanner '88, a cable series in which they satirized the U.S. presidential campaign. Michael Murphy is expected to return again to play fictional Democratic presidential candidate Jack Tanner. Like the original 11-episode series, real-life political figures are expected to show up in the episodes, which are due to air on the Sundance Channel in October. However, Sundance programming chief Adam Pincus said in an interview with the Philadelphia Inquirer that it may be more difficult to land top political personalities today than it was when the original series aired. "People are more media savvy," Pincus says. "That may pose production problems for us. They may not want to do a story that doesn't serve them.".

I believe the new ones premiere in October [EDIT: whoops, I didn't see that part of your quote] ... I had actually expected a 'Tanner' DVD to come out *after* the new ones.
This is great, but now I kinda feel like I wasted my time taping them. Ah well, they'll be great to lend out, at least.
Even if every other movie he made was terrible, the guy behind the Player will at least get a view out of me.

There was a short blurb about it on yesterday's Page Six (but given the NY Post's recent penchant for misinformation, take everything with a grain of salt).

Although I'm a big fan of Altman, I'm not a big fan of Tanner '88. I'm sure a lot of other people will enjoy it, and I'm glad it's getting a good release.

You're not missing too much Tarntino. But give 'em a look on IMDb, see if they catch thy fancy.

Very surprised by the Altman's...and disappointed to have to wait another month to find out which Ford we're going to get. I can't for the life of me figure out why they would include the trashy Fat Girl in their collection. I love the snippet from a movie guide I have on it:
"A homely French teenager both loves and resents her older, prettier sister. French filmmaker Catherine Breillat continues the drive she bagan with Romance to stretch the bounds of mainstream film sex. The result is more of the same Eurotrash, with Breillat's trademarks: graphic sex and violence coiuple with hilariously pretentious dialogue."
I'll pass....Romance absolutely sucked and got notice only becuase it was "daring" - which really means it was soft core porn with "profound" dialogue....utter trash. It's a shame to see Criterion validate that kind of artifice by putting their stamp of approval on Breillat....

Not so fond of the covers, 'cept for Tanner.
I prefer this one for Eyes Without A Face...
Also, why is the one-man Secret Honor priced significantly higher than the eleven-episode Tanner '88?

I would calm down a little bit...Criterion's mission is not only to release "classics" (regardless of what your definition is) but provocative films as well. A Ma Soeur happens to be one.
I am far from comparing Salo to this film but looking at the reactions some members here have towards Salo using tags such as "fascist" etc...I see no reason to blame Criterion that they are bringing this film to the US market (esp. given the fact that the British release was cut and the R4 is poor) but congratulate them. Eurotrash for you provocative cinema for others....
Just my humble opinion...
Cheers

i'm perfectly calm, and i understand what Criterion's mission is.....but Breillat is hardly provocative....more like sensationalistic for the sake of being shocking. I think her films are trash....that's all. I'm just disappointed that Criterion, as I said, is validating the disturbingly pointless pretentious garbage that is Fat Girl.
Just my humble opinion....
Cheers

This fat girl announcement may challenge me not to collect every criterion. This was a so so picture with an idiotic ending.
