Mythbusters: Season Premiere, 7/27

Season premiere is tonight at 10 on The Discovery Channel.

Mythbusters returns for a second season with hosts Adam Savage and Jamie Hyneman questioning urban myths; tonight, the duo asks whether a scuba diver can be sucked out of a body of water by a firefighting helicopter and spewed out into a forest fire

I'm looking forward to this one. The scuba diver urban legend is one of my favorites.

I've never seen this show and it's right up my alley. I must start watching.

How long has it been on? How many seasons and total shows?

BTW, tonight, all these are on at the same time:

Nip/Tuck
The Amazing Race
NYPD 24/7
Mythbusters

There are reruns of all but NYPD, but still. Busy TiVos and VCRs tonight.

I'm sure Mythbusters will be repeated several times this week. So will Nip/Tuck (including the encore at 11).

I have a 4-way conflict as well, although mine includes WSOP on ESPN.

Thanks, I just found the episode guide on TV Tome.

I see they have a DVD for sale on the Discover Channel site but it only has 5 shows and costs $64.95.

It's a shame ESPN doesn't re-air those poker events.

Great news about regular network programming tonight. I was expecting DNC coverage.

16. 2- 1 8 Jun 04 Myths Revisited
17. 2- 2 29 Jun 04 Best Explosions
18. 2- 3 27 Jul 04 Scuba Diver, Car Capers

Mythbusters is a great show. Definitely glad to see it back, they should require this as watching for high school science classes.

Yeah, this was definitely the real season 2 premiere. I watched it, and it was quite a bit different than S1. For one, it fairly prominently showed a few different assistants helping them set up the myth tests. I'm wondering if one of them is the person than won the contest to join the cast a while back. As the title implies, the guys just revisited some of the myth tests they were unhappy with (e.g. the chicken gun one) and tried to do a better job. I guess tonight's episode is the first episode of S2 with completely new myths (though I could have sworn I've seen the scuba diver one debunked before).

Let's not forget that this episode airing tonight was scheduled for June 15th up until a few days before it was to air. Discovery has been pulling some odd tricks with this, one of the best shows on television, so who knows what will happen.

Bottom line: After this episode got pulled two or three days before it was to air a month and a half ago, I'll believe it was shown after I've finished watching it.

They lost a lot of credibility with me when they failed to flip a car with 2 jet engines and them proclaimed it couldn't be done. (even after jacking up one side and letting the air out of the tires and parking it directly behind the engines.)

Then the next week on BBC's Top Gear, that show flipped 2 cars just by driving them behind a jet. Makes you wonder what else the Mythbusters were wrong about.

Actually they showed the clips from this actually happening after they could not do it. They could not get the jet they had origianally reserved due to insurance. They used a different "jet" engine that was not as powerful, but they did explain it happened in South America.

What's the budget on a show like this for a season? With all the equipment they have to buy, and insurance, I would expect it to be kinda high. Anybody know?

that old engine burned anything they gave it. wonder if a newer fuel injected one would do any different
good to see some black rifles on tv that weren't being vilified

remember, the jet they used on that episode was one made for making wind on movie sets and not one designed for use on aircraft

It's funny - I liked their experiments with the car more entertaining than the scuba diver test.

You can't go wrong with Mythbusters. My wife and I really enjoy this show.

Well worth a SP on Tivo.

I knew they'd have to stick a banana in the tailpipe a la Beverly Hills Cop.

I wonder if a smaller non v8 engine would stall out from a potato? some claimed to have done it to their neighbor a while back because his neighbor was this stupid ricer wanna-be who'd sit in his driveway and rev the engine for hours at a time

Anyone know what is up with the Tuesday night 10 pm airings? My program guide indicates new episodes (with myths I've never seen them test before) but the last 2 episodes have been repeats?

I had the same problem. I've missed the new episodes from this season, and I'm trying to catch up. But these inaccuracies aren't helping!

There's a thread over at tivocommunity.com that indicates it's a guide data problem. Pretty sure there's been just one new episode so far this season (the one where they dispelled the various 'auto' myths)

I wondered the same thing myself. Two new episodes listed, both reruns. Oh well.

It's like I said in my post in this thread a few weeks ago. They actually managed to show the Car Myth episode to my great surprise, but Discovery decided to pull the show again after it aired. Originally, all the guide data we see now was correct. The new season, which was supposed to start in June, was scheduled to restart with the July 27th episode and continue on.

But of course, that didn't happen. Discovery seems intent on killing this show. The fiasco in June, when they were advertising a brand new season of Mythbusters with a bunch of new episodes pulled only to air the on that they did, was bad. But this time...

According to a producer at Mythbusters, posting on their message boards, the show is now scheduled to come back September 29th... A Wednesday. And at 8pm.

September 29th is going to be right in the middle of the major networks Fall launch, so pushing the time back against Smallville and all the other shows is just idiotic. The show is still great, but it ain't going to last. This pull it, say the new season starts in another two months, change the day and time and repeat is worse than anything Fox has tried to kill a show. Someone at Discovery has to have it in for the show or someone that works on it at this point.

Come September 29th, if there's anyone except those that are fanatical about the show watching, I'll be surprised. Then maybe after that, we can expect the show to have a new episode on November 27th at 1am; a Saturday, for those without a calendar handy.
