I am about to be starting a new job that will require occasional travel. My laptop has a DVD player and I would love to take some of my titles on the road with me for the hotel, plane, etc. However, I am not a huge fan of most of the portable CD/DVD carrying cases I see around. They just seem like they would get scratched up. I could carry the actual Amaray cases or whatever with me, but that would be a lot of unnecessary space...Does anyone (like Gut who is anal about the care of his DVDs) have any good pointers/recommendations for taking DVDs with you when you travel?

You could buy a 7-disc Alpha case. That's what I'm considering doing since the sleeve-based cases suck IMO (especially for prolongued storage).

Now that's a decent idea I had never considered...especially since I will be ordering some cases soon for my Star Trek seasons...thanks to Ric Raston and his custom covers!!

Sometimes when taking DVDs to the radio station or elsewhere I put them in a SLIM CD case like the ones TDK CDRs come in barely take up any room (6 taking up the same room as 1 amary) and your discs are totally safe

Another option would be to rip the DVDs to your hard drive and not take the discs at all. Once you watch them, just delete them to free up hard drive space.

It's against forum rules to discuss how to do this of course, but there are plenty of resources.

Didn't even notice. Thanks for the congrats! I had thought about the slimline cases. I think they would work well too. As long as I don't get some over-zealous security screener chunking my carry-on around and cracking the cases.

If I'm going to take a lot of DVD's with me and don't have much space, I always put them in slim CD cases. They're pretty space efficient since they're barely bigger than the disc.
