Any chance of a better version of Breathless? -Criterion Maybe-

I noticed the Fox/Lorber version of Godard's Breathless is OOP (I believe they lost the rights to alot of there films) so who owns the rights to the film now? Any chance Criterion might get ahold of it and treat the film like the classic it is?

I hope so. Fox Lorber is just a tragic company for DVDs.
With all the new Godards coming out that were formerly from New Yorker and Fox Lorber seeing new Criterion editions, I'd say its likely

I thought the Fox Lorber disc was pretty good.

I've been holding off buying this forever in hopes of a better version. I know the movie annoys most but it's my 3rd favorite Godard film. The current DVD is OK, but w/ criterion having Contempt, Alphaville, BoO, AWIAW, I just figure eventually they will put out Breathless.

I believe Jon Mulvaney said in a fairly recent chat/interview that they (Criterion) were going to do Breathless.

Looking at the old disc, the transfer is splotchy, has an annoying yellow tinge, and what's worst, the ghosting seems evident of a PAL-NTSC conversion...

Let's wait and see. A Criterion transfer? The only way Jean Seberg could look better!

I'd gladly double-dip for a Criterion Breathless (but not the Richard Gere version).

Well, Fox Lorber as a company is no more.

They've since become "Wellspring" - who have put out some GREAT discs lately.

Mr. Koch and Mr. Lorber have formed a new company, Koch Lorber, which has had a lot of problems with discs lately, using a lot of PAL transfers that have speedup and ghosting effects, not using the original audio, etc.
