NL Lineup:
Barry Bonds - 23 HR

AL Lineup:
Miguel Tejada - 15 HR (Giambi's Sub)
Hank Blalock - 23 HR

I've no idea why Tejada and Palmeiro are playing.

I'm calling it now. Barry gets his 2nd crown in a victory over Sosa in the finals.

Not exactly going on a Weir-like limb, now are you, Scorcho? ;)

Palmeiro is obviously there because they wanted all 4 current 500+ homerun hitters in this derby.. but with jr's hamstring, they are going to have to settle for 3 of 4.

Well, Palmeiro has over 500 homers, so before Griffey went down they would have had all 4 active 500+ guys in there.

Actually, predicting Barry to win is kind of going on a limb. He notoriously does pretty shitty in HR derbies, outside of his win several years ago.

Well, maybe not shitty but shitty compared to the expectations. I think he just has a hard time hitting 75 mph meatballs from ~ 52 feet away.

El Scorcho
07-12-04, 02:42 PM
Ahh yes, Palmeiro. I think it's kind of amusing they wanted him there to get all 4 active 500 HR guys in the derby when most people didn't even notice Palmeiro hit 500 HR.

at least they didnt invite mcgriff with his 2 homeruns this season

hell.. the derby may have been fred's best chance to hit 7 more out this year ;)

I'm guessing the final 2 to be Thome and Blalock. I wish they would have got Andersen to do it since he's the defending champion. Tejada will probably only hit 2 and then cry like a baby because one of the kids in the outfield said "hey batter batter batter" and messed up his consentration.

I hate to say it, but Sosa is going to put on a show - he's been swinging good lately and he will pump himself up for tonight. Plus, he's a righty hitting in that shithole of a ballpark.

I wish Pujols was added instead of Berkman but I can understand the home field bias. Glad another righty in Tejada is in given the ballpark.

Berkman's only in because Pujols declined his invitation.

Contrary to popular belief, Bonds was not compensated for tonight's participation:

Eff the camera coverage. Eff the stupid camera angle when they pitch the ball, eff the way they don't cut to the ball's flight in time, eff how I can't see the ball. And eff Chris Berman. This derby is unwatchable.

The worst part is they showed a great instant replay of one of Berkman's shots from RF where you get a good sense of the shot's flight path. Hey stupid producer, get your head out of your ass and use that camera for the righties.
