DAMMIT! I knew this was happening, yet I failed to realize that the ^ next to Zambrano for today that was there earlier in the week wouldn't translate into a start if Wood came back. Now I missed my chance to rent Lima-Time ( ) against hard-luck Roy O. (my apologies to Mad Dawg... Awwww heck, he doesn't have internet today, screw 'em ;) ) for a single start.

:grunt:

Well Zito is pitching pretty solid after 3. Hopefully the wheels won't just fall off all of a sudden.

Speaking of Zito I was listening to ESPN radio on my way to work yesterday and they (forgot who) were discussing Zito's issues. One of the commentators thought he might be better served as a left-handed closer saying that he just doesn't have the maked up as an ace starter. There were tryign to make a parallel to Smoltz, but with the thinking that it might be better for Zito to make the move earlier in his career. Thoughts?

Red Sox get back 2 runs on David Ortiz's double and a Trot Nixon groundout.

3-2 Rangers over Sox in the fourth.

And today's mediocre Dodgers starter made to look like Sandy Koufax by the Astros: Jose Lima.

The Braves pummel the Phillies pitching staff for 16 hits (the big one being the 3-run homer by Julio "Methuselah" Franco, that put the Braves ahead for good). Smoltz tries to give the game away in the 9th with a 2 run lead as 2 men get on base, but he wiggled out of the jam next with a couple of flyball outs, and then a called 3rd strike to end the game. Oh, Bowa got tossed out of the game in the 9th inning because the umpire wouldn't give Wagner a called 3rd strike on Smoltz (batting at the time), and then the ejection occurs, and Wagner strikes out Smoltz on the next pitch.

The Braves could have easily swept the Phillies this weekend (had their bullpen held the 5 run lead in Friday's game), and wound up 5-1 for their road trip this week before the All-Star break, and are only 1 game back of the Phillies.

White Sox take over first place at the break:up:

Yeah, it's tough to know that we could actually be in first right now if not for that Friday night collapse. Still, pretty damn good to be where we are considering all the setbacks this year.

Unless the Cards score six runs in the bottom of the ninth to tie this thing up - the Cubs are going to avoid the sweep. :(

That was huge for the Cubs....stop the streak and instead of dropping 3 in the standings they walk out just losing 1 game.

Zito being a closer for the A's would be better than him getting traded to the Os for a 3nd baseman
