Any good serious Mermaid movies?

For Mermaid, I thought "creature" was very good. Sure it's a horror movie but it's a nice change from cartoons and comedy. I can't remember if Fantasy Island episode with a mermaid was good or not, but that's the only serious one I can think of. Russian cinama has "The Little Mermaid". It's fairly old and cheesy gears toward young children but the mermaid was hot .

Anyway, anyone know of other available ones out there, let me know. There's something about mermaids that just get me excited . Sexual aside, there's something mystical out it that I find a movie of it interesting along the same line as medusa/snake woman and fairies.

The only live action mermaid movie I know of is Splash.

Do a plot key word search in the imdb.

It's been a while since I've seen it, but The Secret of Roan Inish might interest you.

Secret of Roan Inish is an absolutely fantastic movie. Not exactly a mermaid, but a "selke"----a seal that can live part of her life as a woman---but along the same lines. One of my all-time favorite movies---a very warm, human, well-crafted example of magical realism.

Oh yes, that's the name and not "creature" as I've stated originally. Always wondered why they called it part 1.

I'll be sure to check out The Secret of Roan Inish.

Ok - almost didn't post that cuz I wasn't sure if that's what you meant or not. Caught that on HBO one night and really liked it... very compelling.

She was only legal in one film and that wasn't it.

I'm sure it's not out on DVD or even on VHS, but sometimes it shows up on cable - MIRANDA with Glynnis Johns showing off her tail.

Another one is MR PEABODY AND THE MERMAID which is easier to track down.

But both of these are in the "lovable mermaid" category.

For evil mermaid-type creatures, try Dagon.

That one is a great classic film and extremely erotic in its own subdued way... The makers of the new live-action Peter Pan (another great film) spent a lot of time devising mermaids that were both appealing and threatening though, unfortunately, they don't get much screen time. But you do get to see a lot more of them in the "making of" documentary of the DVD.

Nope, afraid not.

(at any rate, avoid the reissued version that did a bad job of replacing Traci's scenes ie. inserting new scenes shot on video into a feature that was originally shot on film)
