I admit to loving the Pirates as well. It's hard to still root for this team. They've had 11 straight losing seasons, well on their way to #12. Plus, I no longer live in Pittsburgh so it's tough to see any of their games anymore.
That being said, the team they have this year is actually not that bad. The Wilson's have both stepped it up a lot this year, and kendall is producing as well. Both the players they got for Giles, Bay and Perez, are starting to come around as well. With some better pitching they might be able to finally get a winning season.
They've won 8 in a row and 9 of 11 (although they had lost 19 of 21 before that :)) so at least we have something to cheer about of late.

<--- die hard pirates fan. loved the days when their outfield was bonds, bonilla and van slyke.
i still root for them every year, but every year its the same...i hate baseball and how its impossible for teams like the pirates to be successful. :(

I like the Pirates as a friend.
I'm really happy to see Daryl Ward have success with a team, and I hope that he comes back from his injury as solid as he was when they called him up.
I think Jack Wilson is one of the best things going in baseball. The plays he can make are just outstanding.
And Craig Wilson is a fun guy to watch.
Plus, I've always like Lloyd McClendon, but I've pulled for him as a manager ever since he pulled the base out of the ground and took it with him into the dugout.

Born-and-raised a Phillies fan.
However, having grandparents and lots of other family in Pittsburgh while I was growing up meant I spent a lot of time there and went to a ton of Pirates games at 3 Rivers. Though they are a natural rival of the Phils, I do have a small token of appreciation for them.

Been a huge Pirates fan since the 80's. Was just at PNC Park Saturday night taking in the game - this team may not win the World Series, but they are a lot of fun to watch.

There are other Pirates fans here, amazing. I agree, it's tough being a Pirates fan (especially living in CA), but I rough it every year. I went to two of the Oakland/Pit games this year...

I liked Willie Stargell and Dave "The Cobra" Parker.
I also used to like the unique hats they had.
Does any of that count? :)

I grew up a couple hours from Pittsburgh, but I always hated the Pirates. My dad was a Reds fan, and I have always loved the Brave's (watched them on TBS since I was little).
PNC Park is a great ballpark though, maybe the best in the league.

I'm a big Pirates fan, I have been one all my life. Dave Parker was and still is my favorite baseball player. I even still have my Sid Bream doll that I have to kick around every once and awile. (Those damn Braves fans know what I'm talking about.)
