Just saw this on rottentomatoes news (link, http://actionadventure.about.com/od/news/a/aa062604b.htm). Two words....hot damn! And I couldn't find anything on this here, including after doing a search.

Two sequels at the same time with Johnny Depp, Keira Knightley and Orlando Bloom
Jerry Bruckheimer revealed plans for not one, but two sequels to Pirates of the Caribbean. “We made a deal with Gore [Verbinski] to do 2 and 3. We made a deal with [Ted] Elliot and [Terry] Rossio who rewrote the first film. They did an outline for 2 and 3. They’re writing number 2 right now and we’re negotiating with all the actors.”
Bruckheimer plans to shoot the two Pirates sequels simultaneously (“That’s the plan. It could change, but that’s the plan.”) and have the story continue between the two sequels. “It will be continuing, but you’ll definitely have an end at the end of two. The story will pick up again in three.”

Though they are negotiating, Bruckheimer is confident that the lead actors will return. “Johnny [Depp]’s really excited about doing it. You can ask Keira [Knightley]. I think she’s excited about doing it and we’d love to have Orlando [Bloom] back. He’s told Gore he wants to do it. So it comes down to if you can financially afford them because they’ve all become bigger stars than they were when we first started three years ago.”

And Geoffrey Rush? “That’s going to be a secret. I’m not going tell you, but we have plans.”

Bruckheimer also hinted that the adventure could expand beyond the Caribbean. “It’ll still be the Caribbean and we might go to Thailand, to the far east.”

For her part, Knightley had not heard the plans to do two sequels at once. “Really?” she asked. “There you go. That will be exciting. I hadn’t heard any total confirmation. You’ve got more information than I have.”

Still, Knightley confirmed interest. “I think we all had such a fantastic time in the first one and I think everybody’s desperate to do the second. And I know that the writers are writing away on it so it will be fabulous.”

Why not?

I could do without Bloom, but Depp I would love to see again, and Keira, well, she's Keira!

I'd actually prefer if it just followed Captain Jack to some other part of the globe, with an all new set of heroes/villains to interact with. Keira's great, so I won't mind if she comes back. But if not, they could get a different hottie for each movie, a la James Bond. That would be most excellent.

An origin of Captain Jack movie would be pretty cool too

This sounds good - as long as Depp is (literally) on board.

Not one but two! I'm doubly happy this morning.

I didn't like it one bit, so these won't get my 7 bucks...

But why do they plan for 2 sequels?? Why not one to begin with?

It cuts production costs to shoot them back to back since you can keep the same crew and sets for both films, without having to rehire or rebuild. Even if the second isn't a hit, the third will still make money on the international market and home video releases.

Awesome news for anyone like me who thought that Pirates was the best non-LotR movie last year. :)

As long as Johnny's there I'll be in the seat. I too would prefer a Capt Jack origin movie. And that's about the only way I'd want to see Geoffrey's Barbosa again. I think it would be a mistake to try to bring that character back after the way it ended in the first.

I'd also prefer the sequels to be about Jack (only if it's Depp). I don't really care if Orlando or Keira  comes back. I think those characters stories are over as far as their relationship with Jack goes.

You can safely steer clear of these Pirates discussions in the future, then.

I too would just like a movie dealing with the further adventures of Jack. Either way I'll be in the theatre to see it.

Depp is the key to these for me. I could take or leave the rest, not cuz I didn't like em in the first, but because I think they would have more flexibility to be creative with just the main character.

Awesome. I can't wait to see them considering the first one was one of my favorite experiences in the theaters. I love movies like it.

As others have pointed out... Keira.

I don't see the appeal of a woman with the figure of an 11-year-old boy, but...

Anyway, I liked PoTC, but I always get nervous when I hear the "two sequels! back-to-back" label thrown about. Has this ever really worked out? LOTR doesn't really count, neither does Kill Bill. Back to the Future II & III both kind of blew, especially compared to the first one. Matrix? See BttF. I'd rather see one truly great film made at a time than two "sort-of OK decent" films in a six-month period.

Actually, I'd like to see no sequel at all. They should just let it lie and enjoy their success. And maybe at long last we could see Johnny Depp in the role he was born to play: the

Is it possible for any guy to around here to mention Keira Knightly without putting up this  or this :hump: ?

Didn't think so. ;)

(I'm referring to the ride in case anyone is scratching their heads)
