Ugh - the Cards outfield defense is going to be atrocious today. Lankford will be in centerfield and Marlon Anderson will be in left. Yep, the Bucs are definitely going to sweep unless Matty Mo' can throw a gem.

Let's Go, Matty Mo'!!!!

and Come On, Twins - Take back first!!!!

The Jimy Williams Farewell Tour continues today. A possible brief reprieve with Clemens on the mound today, but Clement is going for the Cubs. Wade Miller, tomorrow's starter, has been placed on the 15-Day DL, so the Astros will throw Pete Munro vs. Mark Prior instead.

Many analysts expect Williams to be dismissed after the All-Star break if the team continues to underperform. That's very disappointing, as the break is not yesterday.

I love Milo. I really do. And I'll admit that I wanted Jimy Williams fired before he had his first interview with the club. His weaknesses were well known before he came aboard, and I'll be damned if those very things were not directly related to the club's collapse last year, and much of their run scoring issues this year. Williams was never supposed to be Houston's manager, but Drayton McLane overrode his smartest baseball people in favor of close advisors who told him that Jimy would make the players happy.

Milo must know that no one is demanding that Dierk be reinstated. He had done all he could effectively do. He became tired of the grind, and Houston's rarely publicized clubhouse politics got the better of him.

Now it is time for the club to realize that the same is true for Jimy Williams. He has proven what he is capable of. His quirks will never change. He will sacrifice quality players' time in favor of the role players that he likes. He will continue to overwork an already overworked bullpen. The brightest move Jimy has made all year was a move that came far too late, when he finally saw that playing for one run with Everett in the 2 hole would generally, at most, yield just that one run. So to correct this, he doesn't put one of the best #2 hitters in baseball, Carlos Beltran into that spot. He puts in Jeff Bagwell, a great on-base guy, to be sure, but with none of the speed of Beltran, and a notorious free-swinger.

No one expects the club to want to enter a rebuilding stage while only 6 games out, and few believe that there are any Jack McKeons out there to lead this club to the promised land this year. But Milo and others must realize that Jimy's legendary brand of mismanagement is a liability in a hotly contested division, and it is time for a change.

Correction. In today's line-up, Adam Everett is once again batting in the #2 hole. He has an OBP of .313. The only players on the team with a worse OBP are the two catchers, if you don't count the pitching staff.

Jose Vizcaino is filling in for the injured Jeff Kent, as expected. However, he is hitting 6th. Now, I'd like to repeat this for anyone, like Milo Hamilton, who doesn't believe that Jimy Williams lacks competence. Jose Vizcaino is hitting in the 6 hole. He has exactly 6 RBI this year. This isn't how you pull a baseball team out of a slump.

Actually the last Astros at bat today was a Lance Berkman grounded out to second.

I also find it ironic that the trade of Dotel likely cost them the lead today (using Miceli and Lidge instead of Dotel and Lidge in the 8th and 9th), but that the Beltran trade also got them the lead and the win. Oh, the irony!

I mean scoring in their last AB, and winning the game in the bottom of that inning. They have yet to win by scoring in the bottom of the deciding inning.

Screw this. Too confusing.
