Jerry Bruckheimer

Does it strike you odd that this executive producer is the closest thing to an image of one of those hollywood fat cats? He's released some real horrific stuff over the past few years, why does he do it?

Every prolific mainstream producer makes crap. I hear that Bruckheimer is actually a very nice guy who rarely loses his temper, so in that respect he probably doesn't fit my image of the classic Hollywood producer. Guys like Joel Silver and Scott Rudin might be closer.

I can not say anything good about Jerry Bruckheimer. He has made some good stuff, but the bad stuff he's made has blinded me with rage.

The guys is somewhat responsible for some pretty drab pieces o'crap that have raked in fistfulls of cash, but I know nothing about him personally. Some of the stuff he's procduced hasn't been that bad either.

I supposed the only real problem I have with the guy aside from making Michael Bay a big name is the fact that his name is on everything he does. I mean a producer really doesn't have much direct influence on make a movie good or bad(unless they step in and chop footage obviously). I understand that it's the name of his production company, but it just comes off as an ego stroke. I know a few people who see that label and make assumptions, when all he's really doing is fronting cash.

I liked quite a few things he has done. A great producer, all of his films look nice visually.

Just not your genre.

he's a business man... a VERY good one indeed.
many of you might see it from that point of view...
if he can't make $$$ from his movies, then he's a BAD producer... artistic producers mean squat! if he/she can't make a return investment out of their/investors' $$$

he knows what works & what's not in general public's eyes which is what most studios are looking for.... being artistic is good "bonus" too....

aparently, him & joel silver been a very successful producers in Hollywood... especially when it comes to action movies genre.

being artistic is directors job. producer's job is to make sure the movie works in audience & make $$$...

so, i can't really blame him for producing "not so artistic" movies
he's just doing his job... & doing it very well

Some of his films are good, some are crap. I would say he definitely has more influence over the look of his productions than the average producer. While I don't like all of the stuff his company makes, he definitely knows what the masses like most of the time, and darned if the movies aren't entertaining as hell most of the time.

I seem to remember an article in GQ years ago that talked about him and his penchant for wearing a brand new pair of black jeans every single day. He'd wear them once and then chuck 'em out, claiming that the miniscule degree of fading d/t the washing process rendered them unwearable. Gimme a break!

He also produces CSI - one of the most popular shows on television. I haven't seen it, but people seem to like it.

imo all his stuff comes off as popcorny, predictably bland, and full of one liners, his name is on some good stuff though, but mostly crap

You know, his stuff is very popular. I enjoy some of it very much. It ain't art, I hated Armageddon, but quite frankly so many people enjoy his stuff I'm not gonna be so presumptuous to say he's evil and should be ashamed of his work.

Anyway, if you wanna talk about nutso producers...shouldn't we be discussing Joel Silver? He makes Bruckheimer seem like arthouse fare.
