Straczynski & Zebel (Dark Skies) Create Trek Series
From SciFi.com:
B5 Creator Pitches Trek
Babylon 5 creator J. Michael Straczynski told fans on a B5 Usenet group that he and Dark Skies creator Bryce Zabel have put together an idea for a new Star Trek series, which he said would revive the ailing franchise. "I got together [with Zabel] and wrote a treatment earlier this year that specified how to save [Star Trek] and develop a series that would restore the series in a big way," Straczynski wrote. "I actually think it could be a hell of a show. Whether that ever goes anywhere with Paramount, who knows?"
Straczynski added that Paramount called him last year to accept an executive producer position on the currrent Trek series, Enterprise, in its upcoming fourth season, but that he declined. "The series I mentioned has nothing to do with any current series," he added. "It's a new show."
Manny Coto, who created Showtime's SF series Odyssey 5, will take over Enterprise next year as show runner. "As for Manny, he's a good writer, and left to his own devices, I think he could be a big help over there without the other powers-that-be impeding the process," Straczynski said.

Even if this goes nowhere, I'd love to see what they put together.

I heard about this. At this point, I think Paramount might be wise to give JMS his shot. Everything they've tried in-house hasn't worked and it's past the time they give some other big name Sci-Fi voice a crack at it. Maybe the B5 fans will check it out and boost the ratings more than short-term?
Hopefully it finds it's way to us in some form, even in a novel or something.

Holy crap - Star Trek I would watch! Even worse, if someone right now walked up to me with a box set, even knowing NOTHING about the JMS had in mind for the series, I would buy it at Paramount "rape-the-fans" prices, right now, sight unseen.

I used to Love Trek and I love JMS' work but Trek needs to take a rest.
I dont think anyone, even someone as talented as Sraczynski is going to be able to boost peoples excitement with this franchise.
I would have much rather have had him create something of his own.

Crusade? Wasn't it canned before it even started?
Legend of the Rangers? "Didn't get high enough ratings"
Jeremiah? Did they even finish playing the second season?

I think TNT ruined Crusade, but it was good
LOTR was so so at best, and sci-fi putting it on opposite the superbowl was killing it before it had a chance

I can't believe they offered him the gig. Not suprised JMS turned it down.
