Does anyone else NOT like Buffy?

It absolutely amazes me how many Buffy fans are thriving out there regardless of their genre preference. Everyone seems to praise Joss Whedon as some sort of god (his new stint as writer of Astonishing X-Men makes me roll my eyes, and I'm a huge X-Men fan so this might be tough). I've seen the first three seasons of Buffy, the first season of Angel, and scattered episodes from the remaining seasons of both, and I just don't see it. The shows are just goofy and ridiculous to me, yet I've been hard pressed to say so before without having rocks thrown at me.

Also, I HATE James Marsters and the fact that there's a spell for everything.

Please, someone tell me I'm not alone.

You're not.

I thought the movie was much better than the series.

Welcome.

You might want to try the TV Talk forum (although I think your thread will just start a flame war). The DVD Talk forum is to talk about DVDs.

I hate Buffy, but this thread is not productive and only seeks to start a flame war- as was my anti-anime thread.

Although this is the wrong forum (& wrong forum overall to bash Buffy, most IMO here love the show) I always welcome the chance to express my loathing, passionate hatred for Buffy & Joss Whedon in general.

I have 2 main problems with the show that make me hate it so much (I've seen probably about a dozen episodes) One, the putrid writing of Whedon, which just annoys me since most fans of the show claim they love it b/c of the amazing writing. Two, the fact that a good majority of the people from my experience that worship the show are grown men, when the show so clearly to me is marketed towards teenage girls. This ties into the my hatred of the writing, which has dialogue tha sounds like what it is, a balding middle aged man trying to write how he would think a valley girl talks. And three, the cast. Buffy is just so annoying & I am clueless as to why people think she is hot. That pail red head, that annoying gay guy Xavier? arhhhhhghh I can go on & on the show is so annoying.

I too find it astonishing that anyone likes this mediocre show. The acting is atrocious. The directing, editing, & camera work is ugly. Fight sequences are uneventful. The storylines are garbage. Villains are laughable.

There are many shows that I don't like, but appreciate the craftsmanship put into them: L&O: CI, Oz, Six Feet Under, Frasier, etc. Buffy, on the other hand, has nothing noteworthy!

Aw, I feel better!

I can't stand Sarah Michelle Gellar. She is not attractive either. I wouldn't call her ugly but she is far from pretty. However, I enjoyed her role in Scream 2.

I have tried watching Buffy a couple times and that was enough.

I've never seen the movie or the TV show. I have no desire to, either.

I like the show. Never saw it when it aired, but caught up to on DVD. Those that never gave it a shot might be surprised. I find it to be a great mix of genres: comedy, fantasy, drama, action, and sci-fi/horror.

I never liked it myself. What I did see of it was...well...just not my cup of tea. I don't want to give out exact comments to avoid bothering any fans, but I can't see why it has the popularity it does.

NO desire whatsoever to even consider watching this show. Saw the cheesy movie back in the day, but that is it.

I put Buffy along the same lines as Charmed, which I also hold in extremely low regard.

Of course, this is just my opinion, and I could be wrong.

I watched and liked both Buffy and Angel in their first few seasons. I then stopped watching Buffy around the time they got to college and stuck around for the first season of Angel. When I came back to them, Buffy was sucking but Angel was still great. Now I find myself watching Angel reruns in syndication. I love the show.

I've seen a couple episodes and that was enough for me. But the movie is a guilty pleasure of mine that i'll sit down and watch every once in a while if it pops up on TV. although my tv watching will soon come to an end.

I hated the movie, but I bought Season 1 of the show blind, and now it's one of my favorites, along with Angel. I hated Firefly though, which most people seem to like.

Love it. Straight, married, 30 yo male here. Wife loves it too.

I guess it helps if you both grow up being outcasts and wishing the people around would give you a good excuse to drive a stake thru their heart without all the bleeding and the questions and prison sentences.

Tho Angel does outshine it's parent series very often.

Yea I'm a big fan too, for us, its fun for the whole family... and as somebody already mentioned, excellent job of mixing genres, it can be gloom and doom, and hilarious all at the same time.

Badly addicted to both shows. I can't wait for the animation and the Spike movie.
To anyone who can't stand the show, go see an episode entitled
"The Body" It upset me so that I spend an hour on the phone with a friend who hates spoilers. (I got the show a dayahead of her. One newspaper called it the finest hour in the history of tv.
Austin
PS I don't care what the women look like The show has much more depth to it than that
By the way, Xander is not gay and obviously you didn't see much of the show
