View Full Version : Have you watched every single dvd in your collection?

This means you watched all of your dvds plus all the bonus material on the dvds.

I still have not watched the bonus features on about 20 of my dvds.

I have never gotten around to watching and listening to the audio commentary on any of my dvds.

Football season delays dvd watching.

:) :D  rotfl

Considering before the DDD coupon I was already "backlogged" I certainly am now ;) My biggest "problem" is Netflix, in order to make it worth while you got to keep the DVDs moving which leaves no time for the ones you buy :( One has to ask at point does does a hobby become an obsession become an addiction -ptth-

WRT Football season what I usually do is pop in a DVD on PiP and listen to the commentary on the stereo while watching the game on the main screen w/ CC. Then again back in college I could only really study w/ the radio and TV on ;) Used to drive people up the wall.

I'm not big into special features. I don't find the need to watch a bunch of documentaries and making ofs that I don't want to see. Also I'm not big into commentaries unless I hear it was a good one. So if I exclude extra features I've seen all my DVD's. Most of the more than once.

I doubt I've even watched half of them.

I think that 95% of the regulars on these forums are DVD Obsessed and that definitely includes me :)

I also have watched less than 50% of them completely.

On a side note, corycougar without a doubt gets my vote for member who creates the most new threads.

Yeah, I've watched them all....

....sit on my shelf waiting for me to watch the damn movie :)

Yep basically, except for a few things on my Alien Quad (bonus and the theatrical cuts) and the Godfather set, which I just got.

I only watch all the special features on certain DVDs. For instance, other than audio commentaries, I've watched every extra on both LOTR EEs.

But I haven't even watched all my DVDs. I picked up a couple DVDs at Blockbuster for $10 and never got around to watching them: Road to Perdition and Brotherhood of the Wolves.

I just bought the 15-dvd set of the Muppet show and it will be awhile before I get through that.

I haven't watched every episode of the TV sets I have either.

Just looking at all my unwatched TV sets makes me cringe!

06-18-04, 09:45 AM
Nope. The problem is that I usually don't go through long periods of time where I don't get any new DVDs so that I can go back and watch the ones that I haven't seen but bought a long time ago.

I'm obsessed as well with the DVD medium, but seem to put off tomorrow what I can always do today..have about 150 or so still wanting to be seen...ugh!!

I have zero desire to listen to some of the commentaries, but I have seen all the primary content on all my dvds, I am the type of person who buys dvds to watch, not collect

PopcornTreeCt

My unwatched pile is at 50 dvds. Not too shabby considering I own about 580.

Geofferson

My biggest problem is the TV box sets. Because I plan on spending 18 hours watching Alias S2, that's about 9 unwatched DVD movies that will have to go on the back-burner.

FuzzyBallz

DVDs are for collecting, not for watching. I haven't opened a single DVD I've bought in the past 5 years... Paraphrasing from other threads of course.

Yes, I've watched every single one of my DVDs. I open them and watch them the moment I get them.

eXcentris
06-18-04, 01:27 PM
Nope, at least 30% unwatched. Which is why I don't buy tv series. If I don't have time to watch all the movies I buy, there's no way in hell I'd have time to watch entire seasons of tv series.

Let's see
I have around 5 to 6000 DVD and around 20,000 VHS
I think I have seen around 40 to 50%
Some of them I saw orginally in other formats - HBO instead of VHS for example

I've seen every movie or show I have on DVD (except for a few recent sets from DDD), but I haven't watched every single DVD that I own. It's all on my to do list, but that never really gets done.

MasterCXtreme

Every title I've watched but there's a lot of Disc 2's I haven't gotten through. Minority Report, Lion King, X2, and a lot of the Godfather set.

I've wathced... 65% of mine?

Columbia House has been my downfall.

Mod-Mod-World
06-18-04, 03:04 PM
Nope. Most of my collection is an upgrade from VHS. They are favorite movies I've seen many times before, but never seen on DVD or widescreen. When I pull them out to watch, it's almost as if I am seeing it for the first time. I just can't believe I used to watch movies on VHS with a modified AR and didn't know any better. My unwatched DVDs are like a treasure-trove just waiting to be watched!!

I haven't watched all mine, sometimes are the extra's are hard to sit through.

squi23
06-18-04, 03:42 PM
Seen 95% of the movies I have DVDs of.

Watched about 20% of the DVDs since I've purchased them.

Watched about 3% of all the "extra" DVD material.

I'm a collector, plain and simple.

Granted, I tend NOT to buy movies just to buy them.
I have to have seen it and enjoyed it, or it has to have had a strong recommendation.

That's me out.

I hardly ever watch bonus material. Time spent on bonus material is almost always time that could be better spent watching another film.

I have seen every single film in my collection, however.

Iron_Giant
06-18-04, 04:45 PM
Yes, I have watched them all. I only buy what I want to watch over and over again. Why spend the money if you are not going to enjoy it.

I takes me awhile to get through a Smallville set and there may be a few Specail Features (trailers...) that I have not watched, but that is far and few in between.

MEJHarrison

I watch everything on a disc. It all started a few years back when I got laid off. Since the extra spending money was gone, I decided to go back and watch the bonus stuff and commentaries. That gave me something new to do without buying stuff I couldn't afford at the time. And it's a habit I've never stopped for some reason.

On the plus side, it really helps me to keeping my buying under control. If I just watched the movies, I'd always be buying more crap.

Now I have between 250-300 movies and except for those I haven't gotten to yet (~30), I've watched everything. It took about 6 weeks to get through Alien Quadrilogy, but I didn't watch it every night.

I guess I don't watch everything. The one exception is things like scripts. I'd rather stare at a blank wall than read hundreds of pages on my TV. I could do it in paper form, but not on DVD.

Ive watched every DVD I own except the three I bought yesterday.....

I've watched probably 80-90% of the "extras" on each disc.

Ergyu
06-18-04, 06:03 PM
Nope. I've only listened to 3 commentaries, and have only bothered to check out all the extras on maybe 10 of my discs. I have about 330 dvds, but I don't really care about extras, I buy them for the movie usually. That said, I still haven't seen a few of them, maybe 30 or so.

LasVegasMichael

Not even CLOSE.

(including Seasons 1-9 of X Files purchased blind. Have never seen a single episode, yet I own the series. Heard its pretty good ;)

chente
06-18-04, 06:24 PM
I've got about 14 titles that are unopened. Of those 14, only 4 are movies I haven't seen before. I usually go through most of the supplemental stuff but rarely the commentary unless I've heard it was good or want to know more about the movie.

Avid
06-18-04, 09:06 PM
I've watched all my movies and about 75% of the extras.

The Disney Treasures make me cringe. For some reason I have to have them, but I have to force myself to watch all of the shorts. It takes me months to get throught them and when I'm done I don't want to watch any DVDs. By the time I'm recovering another round comes out.

Ive been collecting my DVD's for seven years now, and have watched my entire collection back to front.

During baseball season, I usually have a heavy backlog of titles due to the fact that I go to every Angel home game.

Right now, here is what I haven't watched:

To Die For (Bought today)
Hollow Man (Bought today)
To Live And Die In LA
Two Of A Kind
Trapped In Paradise
How I Got Into College
Speed Racer - Vol. 2
K-9: The Patrol Pack: The Franchise Collection

I just got through the Theatrical versions of the LOTR trilogy, and now I'm going through the commentaries on The Simpsons Season 4.

Max Bottomtime
06-19-04, 10:37 AM
I always watch the film and most extras within a day or two of getting the dvd, then rarely watch the extras again. I rarely watch trailers, especially if it's from a film other than the one I just bought. I've listened to maybe half of the commentaries.

Amel
06-19-04, 12:05 PM
If the criteria is that I've had to have watched all the bonus stuff then no. But I've watched the movie on every single disc. And probably a majority of the bonus material. I usually only buy dvd's that I know I can/will watch immediately and then repetively after that. It does get difficult during hockey season though. But I almost always watch them within 3-4 weeks. I've only done the "blind buy" thing a few times.

I will say that I don't understand why people buy dvds that they don't watch. I've heard of it a few times, but I never witnessed it until a few months ago. I was over a friends house and I started looking at the dvd collection. It was huge. But I saw about two shelves of dvd's that were still wrapped. The shit hadn't even been opened yet! He said he can't stop buying them. And he just doesn't have enough time to watch them.

I've probably watched 95% of my collection. The percentage is going the other direction now that I have a new job and new cash flow. On the positive side, my wish list is decreasing :p

I've watched about 95% of the dvds in my collection, and watch the 'major' extras...

but stuff like screenboards and stuff like that no...

Usually just deleted scenes, outtakes, alternate endings, sometimes making of's, documentaries and commentaries.

My backlog's about 90%, which translates to more than I'll ever watch in my lifetime. :(

People watch dvds? I thought they just bought them when they saw a good deal, then leave them sealed, and then brag about how many they own on dvd talk.
