TV Talk Powers...ACTIVATE!...Find me a new setup...
So...it looks like i'll be in my new apartment by this coming Wednesday [though there's still a shitload of packing to be done]. Anyways...besides making sure the important things are packed carefully [DVDs, CDs, comic books], i'm also going to have the opportunity to possibly quick suckling on the teat of Cablevision.
Here's what I would like...
I guess my only options are IO Digital Cable, DirectTV or Zoom.
Looking through the websites, I see that Noggin is on all three, so that's not an issue.
DirectTV has YES, but it's on the $100 package.
IO has YES & the local PBS [WEDW] station.
VOOM & IO don't mention their compatability with TiVo.
The only TiVo that records two shows at once only seems to be affiliated with DirectTV...and they also seem to be the only ones that offer multi-room, multi-TV setups...
So, basically, i'm stuck. That's why i'm seeking opinions, comments, horror stories, etc..
Right now, i'm thinking I should get IO since they have the three channels I want and i'd get a small discount with my Internet service. But, I really want that TiVo that records two shows at once [and I haven't even thought about modding the TiVo...].
I'm stuck. Help guys..
Here's what I would like...
- Noggin.
- Local PBS [WEDW] station.
- YES Network.
- Hookup for three different televisions.
- TiVo [ideally, to be able to record two channels at once]

Here's one thing that should be able to completely remove one of the options: a standalone TiVo cannot handle HD signals (yet). Since Voom is mainly sold as an HD provider, you wouldn't get much TiVo usage from their services. They're working on a DVR, but it could be anywhere from a couple months to well into next year before we see it.

I would recommend a multi-room package from DirecTV w/ DirecTivo.
AVS has some interesting threads on VOOM, this being one of them:

Is the reason that you want Noggin is to get Sesame Street 24 hours a day?
If so, hang on, Sesame Workshop is working with Cablevision to produce H.I.T., a new cable channel featuring Fraggle Rock, classic Sesame, and a lot of others.....

hmm...what has happened to him? I possibly could've missed some of his posts since i'm reading between packing or instead of sleep...but I think someone should get down to ATL and shake his cage..
damn jeffkjoe, that sounds sweet. any links?
I'm on the phone with IO/Cablevision now.
I guess i'm going to give iO a shot. If the picture quality isn't much better than cable is now, i'll ditch it and get DirectTV.
