I can't believe some people hate this movie. There was an article on ESPN's page 2 from someone who said this was one of the worst sports movies ever. He said it was PREDICTABLE. Geez, that's like watching a replay of the Super Bowl and knowing who wins.

Another title I'm glad I held off on.
Too funny about that article from ESPN. I guess he doesn't like 80% of those damn pesky predictable sports movies ;)

Here's another Page 2 article from a guy who's seen it 250 times, go figure:
MGM Home Entertainment has announced a two-disc collector's edition of Hoosiers which stars Gene Hackman, Barbara Hershey and Dennis Hopper. The film tells the story of a down-on-his-luck basketball coach who leads his underdog team all the way to the state championship. This new set will be available to own from the 8th March next year, and priced at around $29.98. As well as a new 1.85:1 anamorphic widescreen transfer and English Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround track, the two-disc set will include an audio commentary by Director David Anspaugh and Writer Angelo Pizzo, a Hoosier History: The Truth Behind the Legend documentary, deleted scenes With Introduction by Director David Anspaugh and Writer Angelo Pizzo, the Milan vs. Muncie 1954 Indiana High School Championship Game, a Photo Gallery and the Original Theatrical Trailer. We've attached our first look at the official region one artwork below:

I'm definitely getting this. I read the comments above about the cool cover and kind of rolled my eyes, cover geeks I thought. Then I looked. Nope, they're right, it's a cool cover.

This may be the 1st double dip I will ever do for a DVD I already own.
Two things that sold me on the Double Dip:
1. Better picture quality
2. Milan vs. Muncie 1954 Indiana High School Championship Game on the DVD
Love this movie!

I'm always amazed at just how MANY times I read someone has held off buying virtually every disc out there, waiting for it's next rendition. I'll definitely double dip for this one, triple dip if one counts VHS :)

I hate the new SE cover with the ball AND the MGM release with Hackman...
Nothing comes close to the ORIGINAL SNAPPER DVD COVER of HOOSIERS:

According to the Digital Bits (http://www.thedigitalbits.com/reviews3/spinsheet020405.html#hoo) review it is the entire game with radio play-by-play. Cool.

Saw it advertised for $15.99 this week at Best Buy (starting Tuesday, when it's released). The Circuit City ad didn't have it listed.
It's $21.44 at DDD.

Yeah, it's GOOD! Not as much featurettes as I hoped but I watched the entire commentary and documentary. Very nice! I even watched the original game!
Personally, I like this Collector's Edition cover...simple & no heads. I'm SO glad I passed over on the full frame bare bones version.

I picked it up for $15.29 (took the $15.99 Best Buy ad to Circuit City, had them price match Best Buy's price of $15.99 plus 10% of the $7 price difference).
I look forward to watching it again and to watch the '56 Indiana high school title game, but probably won't get a chance until this upcoming weekend.

Picked it up yesterday and watched all the extras. The documentary on the second disc is great. The deleted scenes are a nice extra too. Unfortunately, the commentary repeats a lot of info from the documentary but is still decent.

Aside from the tight fit of the slipcase, this is a very nice package. Slipcase fold out into a great 3 panel shot of the final shot with the respective parts of the picture replicated on the disc. The sneakers and barn shot is on the outer casing of the slipcover.
Film looks real nice in 16x9. Too bad the deleted scenes are in pretty poor condition. I like the intros by the writer and director before the deleted scenes. Documentary is well done; interesting to hear that Jack Nicholson was originally signed on to play Coach Dale and had to pass due to a scheduling conflict. I can't imagine anyone except Hackman in that role. For my money one of the best performances in his career.
This is my fourth dip I think - VHS, P&S LD, WS LD, SE DVD. . .
