Where can I get good deals on the OOP Disney Treasures tin editions? Is there anything I should be aware of when purchasing? I have noticed some imports look like the R1 copies, is there anything else?

perhaps ebay or half.com or even the exchange forum.

I'll second the Exchange Forum. Check there first and help a fellow DVDTalker out.
That's how I recently picked up Mickey Mouse in Living Color Wave 1

For MMILC you're better off with a non-R1 as you'll pay a crap load for it. ($60-$120)

Join the Disney DVD club. They've got the four Wave 1s for $130 and the three Wave 2s for $100. You can't buy them seperately, but I bought Wave 1, sold 'Davy Crockett' on E-bay for $50, sold 'Disneyland' (or 'Behind the Scenes', whichever it is) for $30, and suddenly, it was a really good deal for that color Mickey Mouse and the Silly Symphonies.
I haven't done Wave 2 yet. So don't do that. But do wave 1.

Also, how much is it to join the Disney club?

The cheap ones normally have no tin (and thus no lithograph)

Ah, but you know what happens when you suppose, don't you? You make a supp out of os and e. You're very wrong, they do. Also, your grapes seem sour.
Also, how much is it to join the Disney club?
It costs the total of shipping the three discs they send you for free for joining. [I'd also add, I made a mistake in my initial order and they paid to ship that disc back and give me a different one; unusually great customer service for Disney.] Then you have to buy a certain number of discs over two years (six, give or take one). Luckily, whatever this number is is covered (if not moreso) by the Disney Treasures. Thus, your quota is filled by the very discs which you join in order to buy, and you get three free discs off of 'em to boot.
I was wrong on the price on the Wave 1, it's $120.
All this stuff is covered better in the "bargains" section, though you might have to search to find it. The deal for Wave 1 has been up for at least a year now, though, and still hasn't sold out.
Incidentally, these are *new*, so unless you're getting a guarantee from the half.com seller that it won't be dented, damaged, etc., I'd say DMC is your best bet. They ship 'em in a huge box, they won't get hurt.

No. They're out of print, in that nobody is printing up new ones anytime soon (or, by my understanding, ever). They're still *available*.

You can usually even find a good code, especially on the Bargain page. I believe there's one which allows either another free disc or one less required disc to buy. (Not sure, I already joined.)
Then I browsed DVDs but couldn't find wave 1 or wave 2 or anything of the sort.
Okay, just for the guy who's not buying 'em, I'll give you the *exact* method to get this deal.
1) Log-in. (optional)
2) Click "multipacks".
3) They're RIGHT THERE
It's possible that you may only be able to get to the deal if you're a member, but, irregardless, as you have to be a member to get the deal, I don't see the need to quibble over that. (I can't link to the exact page you're linking, as it just defaults it back to my homepage and logs me in automatically.)
Also, you should've been able to find 'Goofy' seperately. (The others have sold out.)

It's probably only available/visible to people who are members, yeah.
I tried to find the link from bargains, but it was a while ago, so I couldn't. It's in there somewhere, but somebody who remembers it better than I will have to find it, 'cause I couldn't. But I guarantee you that this deal is 100% real and there for the taking if you want it.

I just shed a tear. The offer is not applicable to non-US customers. I'm very dissapointed. I can't afford to obtain these wonderful dvd's via eBay because of the extraoridinary prices.
Since getting the whole of wave 3, I've really been wanting to purchase the rest of these. It's a shame some feel no remorse for those willing to enjoy a dvd without having to sell a kidney just to be able to afford to purchase these from one's greed-filled soul. Horribly supply and demand has put these people in a position to grin at one wholeheartedly whilst earning money from nothing.

The Disney Movie Club option is a good one in my opinion.
Try this code - 509423- Get 3 free (plus $1 S&H) with 5 to buy later.
Sign up on the telephone or online. Select 3 free ones, select one more to count as an enrollment for $14.95 (no addl shipping if bought on first order), select one for $9.95 (doesn't count for enrollment).
Then place a separate order and select the Wave 1 Disney Treasures for your remaining 4 commitments
$119.80 + $6.95 shipping = $126.75
Close account.

Well, I believe they're called "waves", but yeah... ;)
in the tins?
Uh-huh. Sealed too. Want to know what else? The numbers aren't even *that* high.
And, obviously I can't vouch for *every* tin they send out, but the ones I got were mint condition (that is, undented) and shipped in a huge box that would more or less prevent any damage.
Don't mean to sound skeptical; it just sounds too good to be true!
Which is, I assume, why the deal for wave 1 has been up for almost a year and still not sold out.
(Wave 2 has only been up since March or April.)
It's a *great* deal, and the fact that you can turn around and sell the ones you don't want on E-bay for high profit (sorry to the folks who can't get it any other way; it's the market) just makes it absurd.

Last time I checked (less than a week ago) Big Emma's had the Disneyland USA Tin brand new in stock for $19.95 + S&H. I know because I ordered one of them... shipped today. It doesn't state whether it comes in the Tin, but it does say New, so I assume so.

This is on wave 1 order information page:
"Get the ultimate Disney collection now before they're gone! Each limited-edition 2-disc volume comes in a unique, collectible tin case, together now in a must-own 4-pack for a limited time only."
I guess this can be viewed two ways, they used to come with a tin, but now they don't?

If I were you, I'd E-mail them [don't remember the address off-hand, but it's available on the website] and ask them why it hasn't shipped yet ... if you're not rude, if you can politely but firmly explain that you specifically joined the club because you wanted those discs, and that you're worried they'll sell out or your order will be cancelled or something, they should respond, and it'll probably be shipped shortly. [I actually received my Wave I *before* I got my introductory DVDs, though, so I can't say I know exactly what'll happen.]
I know everybody has problems with Disney, and I totally understand them, but I have to say, I've always found the info/help people from their DVD club to be really helpful.
I did notice that they recently updated their site ... 1) lowering the price on Wave II, 2) adding a group of Wave III, and 3) changing the language on Wave I in a way which suggests that supplies are dwindling.

Can someone confirm that by doing the Disney movie club you DO infact get the TINS and not just the 2 sets?
This is quite a bit of money to invest, especially considering I just spent a bunch on just 2 tins, but I'd definately do it to get MMILC and the full Treasures collection...

Cool! For a little more than the price of Alice in Wonderland DVD on DDD I got that and 4 more. Then I ordered wave 1. I also have Clock Cleaners and The Three Little Pigs on DVD UNCENSORED so this way I'll have all the wave 1 shorts 100% uncensored. And I can probably get at least $50 for Davy Crockett on ebay (I already have signed copy for that one).
I placed that order like 30 minutes ago but I got no email confirmation nor is the order status updated. Is this normal?

I can confirm that the Disney Movie Club deal is legit. I ordered Wave 1 and Wave 2 on 5/20/04 and they shipped on 5/26/04. I received them 6/2/04. I was a little skeptical at first, too, but they did arrive in tins. I thought it was a whole lot better than buying them on eBay.
However, they have recently reduced the price of the Wave 2 from $99 for all 3 to $75.90. I missed out on that. Wave 1 is still listed on the website for $119.80 for all 4. And Wave 3 is now available for $99 for all 4 DVDs.
Also, each DVD in your multi-pack counts as 1 towards your membership agreement. So, if your agreement says you have to buy 5 movies at regular price to fulfill your agreement and you buy Wave 1 (4 tins) that counts as 4 towards your agreement. Wave 2 (3 tins) would count as 3. The Walt Disney Treasures multi-packs are the only multi-packs that count that way.

I just signed up as well, and did not recieve a confirmation email. Though, I did call the customer service line and talked at length with a very helpful woman about the details of this club. Apparently, you cannot make your second "commitment" order until after you have recieved your initial 3 freebies + 2...Maybe that is why some of you have been waiting so long on recieving your orders?
Thanks again to those who shared this excelent find with us, it was extremely helpful, and saved me a ton of money on getting some of these DVDs that I have been wanting for months (years even)

I got $50 on E-bay for Crockett ... something like $30 for the other. I was really surprised about the former; somebody in Italy wanted it really badly. And that was just with buy-it-now; no idea what it might've gotten to if the auction had lasted (might've been lower, though).
And I hope the Nightmare Before Christmas is the widescreen and not fullscreen. I ordered wide but the order list does not indicate anything.
I think it is the WS (I've considered picking it up from them). If it's not, the Disney DVD club is surprisingly good about returns and whatnot. I bought "The Emporer's New Groove" when I joined, because I thought it was the good version, but it wasn't, so I just E-mailed them and they took it back right away.

I also got some crap that they can’t have a debit card on file but this payment will go through and I can use the debit card to pay for future stuff. She removed it from file and wanted to put a credit card on file but I didn’t give any number cause I don’t like to use a credit card on the net. In any case I’ll for now wait for my shipment and decide if I’ll close the account and forget about it or order more treasures to sell on ebay.

Tomorrowland is probably the worst treasure. But it will be interesting to see how much it will go for on ebay about 2 months from now.

I also found 6 sets of Tomorrowland at the local Walmart (one was badly dented).
Does the price they fetch on eBay tend to depend just on the lower production numbers, or does the quality of the set itself determine the price? Does anyone actually open these and watch them? All the ones I see for sale on eBay and Amazon.com marketplace are sealed.

The price on ebay depends on whether it is available at the regular retail price elsewhere. Scarcity dictates price.

Guess it depends on your tastes. I thought Tomorrowland was the best. Considering the crossover potential with sci-fi fans (many of whom are DVD fans), I think Disney made a mistake in limiting that Treasure to such a small run.

The lower production number can't hurt but, generally, the ones which sold out the quickest -- which is to say, the ones with the most interest -- sell for the highest prices on E-bay.
Last time I checked, the first color Mickey Mouse was going for over $100, Silly Symphonies was around 75 or 80, Mickey in B&W was up between 50 and 60, Goofy was at least 40, and the others were a bit more erratic, between 20 and 50, depending on when they sold ...
With these new ones, I expect that Mickey won't get as expensive, because all the people buying it are investors ... the Donald one will probably wind up fetching a good price ... and the "War Effort" one will definitely be popular, because I know plenty of people who don't care about the Disney Treasures but like watching weird WWII cartoon propaganda.

Unfortunately, the war effort set had a production run of 250,000. I could grab a bunch of these at Costco right now, but I am leaning toward the Tomorrowland set due to the much more limited run of 105K. I plan on selling them a few years down the line.
One concern - will these hold their value once HD-DVD comes out? I would suspect they would, since the crudity of the early animation would not really benefit from increased resolution.

I dunno about clock cleaners but in"the three little pigs" the wolf dresses up as some Jewish brush seller. This is actually shown in the maltin intro preceding the short.

From Clock Cleaners in MMILC:
This is censored
Original dialog:
Donald: "What's the big idea?"
Mainspring: "What's the big idea?"
Donald: "Aw, shut up!"
Mainspring: "You shut up!"
Donald: "Oh, yeah?"
Mainspring: "Oh, yeah!"
Donald: "Sez you!"
Mainspring: "Say I!"
Donald: "I'll bust you, you doggone snake in the grass!"
The DVD version:
Donald: "What's the big idea?"
Mainspring: "What's the big idea?"
Donald: "Aw, shut up!"
Mainspring: "You shut up!"
Donald: "Oh, yeah?"
Mainspring: "Oh, yeah!"
Donald: "Aw, nuts!" (woof woof)
Mainspring: "Say I!"
Donald: (garbled electronically mixed quacking)
There were four edited versions of the Three Little Pigs. These included (1) the original uncensored short, (2) the short censored with the animation changed regarding the Big Bad Wolf's Jewish caricature mask, (3) the short censored with the original animation intact but the Big Bad Wolf's dialogue changed from a Jewish to non-Jewish tone, and (4) the short censored with both the animation changed and the soundtrack changed.
The R1 DVD has #4. The R2/R4 DVD has #3. I have #3 on DVD.
Although unlike Clock Cleaners this is probably not “censorship” in the strict sense since they were made by Walt himself. So it's kinda 2 different versions. ie BOTH versions should have been on the DVD.
And if you want to know what's been censored from Disneyland USA then see http://www.tannerworld.com/dvd/inserts/disneylandusa1.zip

The best way to answer than is go to eBay, hit the search tab, then advanced search, and look for completed items only.

You can maximize your incoming bids by providing decent pics of each tin. Show that they're sealed and undented (hopefully they will arrive undented). Also if you show the serial number (and it's low) that will bring in more money.
As NCYankee said, check out completed auctions and see what seems to work.

Here is the set I got:
Disney Treasures 7 Disc DVD Box Set (http://disney.store.go.com/DSSectionPage.process?Merchant_Id=2&Section_id=14418&Product_Id=160519&Searchstr=treasures&Page=1)
I also got in late and missed the first couple of waves since I didn't even know about them until the new wave of tins came in (at least I got the current wave cheap at Amazon by preordering with STL and using my 5% off BankOne Visa ecard)
I also had ordered a Complete Goofy Tin on Ebay for $47 shipped when I found out that I could buy the entire 7 disc set in a box set form (no numbered tins) from the online Disney Store for $169.00.
Unfortunately they charge a lot for shipping AND sales tax so it is nearly $200 by that time.
However, I was able to take advantage of one of their FREE shipping promotions they have regularly and go through a commission site like fatcash or ******.com or MyPoints and get another $7.44 back on my total price of
1 61211 169.00 ''Walt Disney Treasures'' 7-Pc. DVD Gift Set
Subtotal: $ 169.00
Total Shipping & Handling: $ 0.00
Estimated Sales Tax: $ 11.83
Grand Total Amount: $ 180.83
So it ended up being about $24.99 each after all that without joining any clubs (and I don't really care about the tins, I just wanted to have the DVDs).
Also, I was easily able to resell the Goofy tin back on Ebay for more than I paid for it, so if you already bought some and want to go with the Disney Store or Video club instead, don't open the shrinkwrap, they have great resale value at the moment.

as explained multiple times throughout this thread, the Treasures will cover your requirements for the club, so that, by joining, you're getting three free DVDs and a ridiculously low price on the seven Treasures discs. (Note: If you only buy one set, yes, you'll have to buy one or two more discs; point is, each Treasure counts as a seperate disc, even though it's one package you're ordering.)

I'd say it's a judgement call; to me, when 'Mickey Mouse in Living Color' routinely sells for $100 or more (not to mention 'Silly Symphonies', $60-$80, maybe more; and I personally got $50 for 'Davy Crockett'), buying all for for $130 + shipping is ridiculously low. And a lot of people in this thread seem to think the price is too low to be believed.

What I'm looking for is someone who will be kind enough to sell them to me at cost plus shipping, no profit. I know it is a terrible thing to ask, but your fellow board-member needs help... So how about it? Anyone?
Genorisity certainly isn't a given. Supply, demand, and the greed holding them two together.
I've tried, multiple times, alas, no luck permitted.
Still want wave 1 and 2.

Well, you could always opt for the Dutch versions. 36 euroes shipped to the US for both MMILC and SS. That's actually cheaper than the combined cost of the Disney Movie Club price.

You could opt for the Euro versions, I bought them for the dvd's solely. However the "tin" consists of two pieces of tin that only stay together in the plastic, they don't fit over eachother to close, you do NOT receive a litho as do the R1 versions contain, and the icing on the cake is that they're not numbered.
To top all this, the latest treasures to be released here are MMILC2 and Donald, this round no tins, and there has been no confirmation as of whether there are any more Treasures planned for release.
I've managed to obtain these two Treasures in R1, the way the treasures should be released worldwide!

Hmm - your post makes no sense - "I know a few of you ordered extra sets for ebay" - yes to make a profit (not myself).
"Now remember why you ordered the set in the first place" - to make a profit.

I continue to find it fascinating that people would use a word like "bloodsucker" to describe a seller that puts an item up for AUCTION. Auctions can end at 99 cents or $10 or $100 depending upon BIDDERS. No bidder on Ebay has EVER had a gun to their head to make a bid. They bid, they purchase, they pay and then they leave postive feedback (both the buyer and the seller do). Both the buyer and seller are thrilled with the transaction, yet the people outbid feel better by making it seem like they were screwed or the world is against them.
Blame Disney for limited print runs if you want, but other than that it is a free country (at least I hope it still is?). Without free enterprise we are not the USA. I would love to go back 3 years and not buy Disney Treasures but BUY EBAY STOCK. I would guess no one would call the stock owners bloodsuckers.

Exactly - and I think some people need to learn the difference between NEED and WANT.
If the desired discs complete the above poster's collection and enhance its value - the only reason I could see that he would be so desperate to get them (I am sure he doesn't want to resell them for a profit himself, right?) - then I guess he should just decide how much it is worth to him. Or plan ahead better next time - this thread has been here for a while.

Exactly to you as well NCYankee. People seem to think that they are entitled to under $20 dvds forever even if an item is rare, collectible, etc. With patience you can have ANY Disney Treasures dvd other than Mickey Color #1 on Ebay for under $40. Full Retail was $32.99 for these sets!!! Anything on LASERDISC was $50-$100 PER MOVIE. What a deal we get these days.

Disney might the release Wave 1 titles without the limited edition numbered tins in the future, as they did last Christmas through Costco (you had to buy the whole Wave 1 & 2 collection).
Reminder- now is the time to buy Wave 2 from the Disney Movie Club

Yea but that doesn't make as much money on ebay. MM B&W and Goofy go for like $60 each :/

So what is the state of supply for Wave 3? Walmart's copies near me are finally gone, but Costco still has loads of Front Lines, and about a dozen copies of each of Tomorrowland and Mickey ILC vol 2. Costco online still has Chron Donald but not Tomorrowland, while Sams Club online only has Front Lines.
Amazon still has them all except Tomorrowland.

All Ebay prices will crest in the 2 months before Christmas (that is just the way Ebay has worked the last several years). It is an auction and more buyers are bidding around XMAS. Online xmas shopping is huge and growing larger.
Wave 3 is still available but supplies are running low. Costco, Sams and BJs have NO STOCK in any wharehouses. Everything is in their stores and that is it. Amazon will sell out before XMAS to be sure. Get them NOW (no one should have waited this long anway). Tomorrowland has approached $40+ on Amazon Marketplace in the last 2 weeks. They are going....going.....going..

Wouldn’t it be funny if one day the treasures are re released and all efforts to rush and buy and hunt and pay $$$ on ebay would be so wasteful.
Though chances are that won’t happen, they will probably be released in SOME form just not in that form (like Davy Crockett was). For instance they make take some cartoons in MMILC, censor them, then release it as a $10 DVD.

I wonder if the advent of high-def dvd will affect the values - I wouldn't think so, since current technology has probably reached the limits of resolution for the source of the older cartoons anyway, so I doubt they will look any better in high-def.

Hey, just got Waves 1 and 2 in the mail from the Disney Movie Club. They look good, some minor imperfections, but they look very good overall. The Goofy set doesn't have the blue band around the front, as others have mentioned.
Anyway, just wanted to thank you folks again for the recommendation on getting the discs through the club. Couldn't have done it without you!
