The Polyphonic Spree - Together We're Heavy

Yesterday, I was lucky enough to pick up an advance copy of this disc. I love it. It's much better than The Beginning Stages Of... Actual songs instead of huge chorus after huge chorus. The choir is much less gimmicky this time out. They've certainly proven to be much more than the novelty band they were seemingly destined to become. This is a great psychedelic pop album.

I'm confused though. The promo copy says "Copyright 2003" and there doesn't seem to be a release date for this disc. I was floored when I stumbled upon this one. Does anyone know when it'll get an official release?

AMG says July 13th. I've heard lots of good things about this album; I'm really looking forward to it.

I'm just getting through my third listen to the album in full. You should be excited for it. It far surpasses anything I thought DeLaughter would be capable of with this group. It really is a fantastic album.

So any answer to the riddle about how they split those royalty checks up 50 ways?

I'd like to give this one a listen.

so i bought their first album and just hated it. some of hte most annoying crap i have ever heard. i wanted to fling the cd out of my car, but kept it long enough to trade it in. but since you seem to say that this album has nothing that i hated about the first album ill give it a shot.

whynotsmile...It still sounds (mostly) like the same band that recorded The Beginning Stages of... If you hated that disc, I would still listen to a few tracks on Together We're Heavy before buying it (don't want to see you waste your money). However, the new disc is ridiculously more accomplished than the first. The choir actually is used to much greater effect. They add to the songs rather than overpower the songs. The disc still has the hyper-positive tone of the first disc though. It's definitely still the Polyphonic Spree.

So now where in Las Vegas did you pick up an advanced copy?

This is one of my most anticipated CD releases of the summer (sadly).

i'd love to hear their new stuff. i wasn't sure about them, but once i saw the live act, i was hooked. truely the most bizarre/interesting act in most recent memory.

If you hated it so much you wanted to throw it out of your car, why in the world would you buy their next album?

so what ever happened to the DVD 'performance' from them, it seemed like a promised release, and then it just fell off the face of the planet.

Gdrlv, thanks for your previous post. I was worried, because I loved their other album. Now I can relax again.

Sorry, but no. Big B's is about 1/2 hour from my house, and I only make it there once a month usually. If it's any consolation, I did find a bit of info about the release of the album...it will come with a free DVD. Looks like I'll be picking it up again (assuming the DVD is worthwhile...hoping its the live performance DVD that seemed to disappear from the face of the earth).

Hmmm. It is right near my job, and I could make it on a lunch break, but if the album does come with a free DVD, I might just wait till July.

My promo copy has lived in my stereo for the past 3 days. It'll take a lot to knock this out of my top 10.

Wow, I've never been much of a Spree fan but I'm REALLY enjoying this album. I'm still on my first listen, and can't wait for another spin.

Think I'll do some work at the computer tonight and keep it on repeat.

thanks for the direction, Bust.

i'm really really enjoying this. truly the most "unique" act i've heard in a long time.

this album seems to take care of what i felt was wrong with the first one. i liked everything (save for the 38 minute noise) on the first album, but i couldn't escape it's "demo" feel. this one is amazing. can't wait for the release.

I'm getting the "feel-good closing credits to a Cannonball Run movie" vibe from this album. Just makes me smile.

Good stuff.

I'm highly anticipating Tuesday so I can finally get my hands on this album.

I was a huge fan of the first album and this is my 3rd most anticipated CD release this year.
