Almost all cult classics are overrated by some percentage of the fanbase.

Everything from Full Metal Jacket to Monty Python and the Holy Grail and Attack of the Killer Tomatoes is spoiled to some degree by people who heap on praise in the hope of being seen as cool by their peers. In many cases, perhaps most obvious with Kubrick films, the most vocal audience is praising the movie with no concept of the actual film or its implications. They see 'ultra-violence' and run with it from there.

The Shining is the 2nd best horror movie ever. Great film.

Reefer Madness is a cult classic BECAUSE it sucks.

Eraserhead

I don't know... but though it evoked something very creepy, it was just a little too strange.

Repo Man was better, but not something I would watch again.

FMJ i would never think of a cult classic. well, maybe the first half. i mean, theres a doll out and everything. Oh, and for the record, shining was great IMO.

reefer madness sadly bored me. there was some funny stuff but overall it was just too "straight" and "normal" nothing really hilariously over the top

i have to agree with Reefer Madness. Thank God I only paid $5 for the cheapo version. I was expecting something a lot more crazy than it was.

Rocky Horror Picture Show.
I don't get it. I was even taken to one of the midnight shows with people dressed up like characters and I just didn't understand the whole fascination with it.

Saw it a few times. Thought it was a fun movie right up until the 'Sweet Transvestite' number. Just got borig as hell from that point on.

I never understood the point of putting films like this out on video. Rocky Horror and Reefer Madness are meant to be watched in a theater full of rabid fans, not in the privacy of your living room.
