Complete Calvin & Hobbes coming in 2005

Andrews McMeel Planning Complete Calvin & Hobbes
Slipcased Hardcover Collection Coming in 2005

June 08, 2004
At last weekend's BEA, ICv2 learned that Andrews McMeel is planning to release a three-hardcover slipcased complete collection of the popular Calvin & Hobbes comic strips in 2005. This set will be similar to this year's two-hardcover slipcased Far Side collection which sold out very quickly, despite being approximately $130. Retail price is expected to be $150.

I am so there for this.

I was hoping this would become a reality after The Far Side(my second all-time fav strip, second only to C&H). I will have one of these in my hands the day it is released.

Incredible, the local Borders had a bunch of older books on the bargains shelves and I was going to fill out my collection. Glad I forgot to count what I had when I got home that night!

That Far Side collection is a real hernia-maker though, wonder if this one will be as heavy?

I've been eyeing most of the C&H books as well, but kept holding off hoping something like this would come along.

I've bought a few of the softcover collections over the past few months (on discount at waldenbooks), but will have no problem upgrading to the hardcover collection

I think I got all paperback volumes when they were released. Do they, combined, represent the "complete" collection of published Calvin & Hobbes strips?

This is nice. I hope this trend continues. I'd love to be able to get a 'complete up till now' collection of Doonesbury and a few other strips.

I'm also glad to hear that Calvin & Hobbes is going to be a three volume set. As beautiful as the Far Side collection is, I think it's just too big. I like books that are easy to transport around. The only way to read the Complete Far Side was to lay it out on a table. I couldn't comfortibly lay back on the couch and read it, it's no good on the toilet. It sits on the shelf, and usually when I get the urge to take it down and look for a strip, the thought of trying to manage the bulk of this monster makes me leave it there. It's starting to seem like a waste.

I hope to see more collections like these, but one's that are a little more reader friendly.

My favorite strip of all time. Will we be treated to some Watterson writings or will this just be the strips?

There is/was a Doonesbury book released a few years ago that came with a CD-ROM containing every single strip up to that particular book. Don't know whether or not its still available.

THIS IS THE BEST... NEWS... EVER.

First the Far Side, then the complete Peanuts (the first volume -- let's hope it makes it all the way through the next 12 years), and now Calvin & Hobbes. It's like some beautiful dream come true.

No if only somebody would do Pogo up nice!
