I have all the paperbacks, but I can't wait to get this. I agree that they need to be broken into smaller volumes.

Yeah, I'll probably have to get this too (even though I also have all the paperbacks).

I hope it really is complete. I know of at least one strip that was never reprinted in any collection.

The one where Calvin pees on the dodge symbol, right?

I think it's the one -- originally published on January 8, 1992 -- in which Calvin vomits all over Japanese Prime Minister Kiichi Miyazawa. We all laughed when we read it in the paper that morning, but when President Bush did the same thing later that day, the strip seemed eerily prescient and strangely inappropriate. Within days, Waterson was lambasted by conservative commentators, who accused him of a liberal bias (either unaware or deliberately ignoring the fact that the strip was written and drawn weeks before the incident, and was even published before Bush's mishap). Ever one to shy away from publicity, let alone controversy, Waterson vowed never to reprint the strip, and so far, he's kept that vow.

This is great news, though I think I would prefer it at a similar size to the Peanuts books. I won't miss this though. Now if we could get the complete Bloom County (and maybe Outland), every strip I'd want, would be out.

Nope, there is at least one other. It was a strip that either was or replaced a hunger awareness day strip. Many comic strips on that particular day published a strip about hunger. In the collections, a different strip was used, or maybe it was vice versa.

I have a photocopy of that strip somewhere.

Does anyone have a scan of that strip or the other non-collected one just mentioned?

There may be others also. Apparently, it is routine for the collections to be edited. Far Side had dozens that never appeared until the recent behemoth.

Cool!

In the meantime, anyone know where I can find the strips that were done with them as photographers? Online or anthology book.

Seeker told me once, but I didn't see them in the book.

I own every last one of the paperback Calvin and Hobbes collections, even the bigger ones that were made up of two of the smaller ones! And this is STILL the best news I have heard in my entire life! It will go quite nicely next to my Far Side collection.

The remark about the strip featuring Calvin peeing on the Dodge emblem was a facetious reply. I believe the poster was poking fun at the fact that Calvin's likeness has been abused in a variety of ways over the years. One of the most notable is window decals showing a boy with uncanny Calvin likeness urinating on the emblem of a competing manufacturer (Ford, Chevy, Dodge, etc.).

My life is complete. Ever since the LA Times started to run this strip (1985) I've collected every single Sunday edition. I have a file box filled with the front page of the comics section.

I agree the Larsen Far Side book is way to cumbersome, but its SUPER COOL! They can't put Calvin and Hobbes out fast enough. I'll leave the car running in the driveway.

If I had to wager a guess as to when it would be released, I would say probably October/November, something similar to what was done with the Complete Far Side set last year.
