I don't know what will be funnier:

Last Comic Standing

or

The Next Action Star.

Check out the clips on the NBC website for TNAS. They are funny.

I was kind of looking forward to this until last March.

Now I might just wait until the comics are chosen.

What is Ant doing there? I've seen him on TV quite a few times, specifically on "Premium Blend" on Comedy Central and the game show "To Tell The Truth."

I thought they were looking for unknown comics?

Kathleen Madigan and Bonnie McFarland are two of my favorite female comics - I'm surprised to see them on the show.

I find it ironic that two people from The Tonight Show are judging a comedy competition.

This should be interesting with so many established comics. I've seen 5 of those 40 just here in Atlanta.

Pretty classy move letting Buck Star (no way that's his real name) have his shot on stage.

I don't get why they handed out so many invitations in New York, some of those comics were really bad based on the short clips they showed. Like the lady that told the joke about the magazine and having no chest, that wasn't the slightest bit funny. Nor was the lady doing the jokes about guys helping their friends get laid. Yet they both got passes. Then in following cities they only handed out a couple invitations, which left out some good comics. I thought that midget lady was really funny.

Did the little lady get in (caffiene chick) go through? (Our station cut to some tornado warning.)

I for one loved the guy in the Boston Trials who was the cop in Maine.

And that lady in NYC - the crazy big lady that keep saying "Mama, mama, mama, mama, mama, mama, mama!" - I've seen her on that lame game show with that Salley guy hosting where they have to guess which person is which. She's annoying.

The best comics were definitely the established ones in LA, particularly the two I mentioned above.

No, the little lady didn't make it. They only chose one from her city and it was the bald guy that talked about being naked in front of the mirror. (I think he was from her group)

the other, the crazy big lady, I'd take my chances with Buck Star over her.

Agreed. Although when it came right down to it, it was kinda obvious. They played it out thoughout the whole show.

They spread themselves too thin, giving out too many spots early. I found a couple in the later cities were good. And I thought they would play up the Buck thing. Move him on just for shits, giggles and ratings. He definitely had character, he also had plenty of stage presence. He unfortunately didn't have the jokes. But I thought it would have been great seeing him mix it up in the house.

The annoying lady's name is Jessica Kirson... and she's been around the circuit for quite awhile...

It was so obvious last year that the producers of the show pretty much chose who got through. Don't they basically even run a disclaimer that says that at the end? It's annoying, but the show is still entertaining. The producers on reality shows always try to choose personalities that could create conflict or who might have an interesting story (like Dat's hard luck story), not necessarily who's the best.

I love how Dat continues to show how much of an idiot he is. He said he was watched by 50 million people on Leno. That's like 1/6 of the population. I doubt 5 million saw him.

What, did they air that episode of Leno during the commercial breaks of the Friends finale?

I'm willing to bet that Buck Star was just trying to become the next William Hung. I'm also pretty sure the "call to his father" was faked.

Were these people supposed to be funny? And that "hard to look tough with a crazy straw" bit was ripped from Kevin James, no?

Hard to say. He said he had been doing stand up for quite some time, so it could have been the other way around. You never know.

Hah! I suspected as much. Even in the preliminaries they showed last night, I got the feeling they were casting people based on their appeal for a reality show rather than judging their material. Of course it's edited so much that it's hard to tell, but I knew as soon as that stripper made sure to tell the judges she was a stripper that she would go to the house no matter what, even if her standup routine was no good.

Tonight is the second two hour episode that whittles the 40 from last night down to 20. Those 20 get to go to Vegas and then a chance to get into the house in L.A.

9 PM Eastern/8 PM Central
