i saw him several years back opening for luscious jackson. i was surprised as well, and thought he was a great live act. unfortunately, i wasn't ever able to digest any of his albums. they didn't compare to the live show.

Funny...I was just listening to some old Grand Royal samplers today that had several of his songs on them. I haven't kept up with him since Grand Royal went under, but I had all of his stuff with them. I really liked his first solo album Pop Queen (I think). Very acoustic, some catchy lovelorn songs on there. I didn't relate too much to his other two albums.

His newest album, "Hey You, Yes You," is actualy quite good. It's produced by Dan the Automator of Dr. Octagon/Deltron 3030/Gorillaz fame, and it kinda like pop with a hip-hop beat. Pretty cool, actually.
I loved his first album, but also couldn't really digest his second a third records.

His first record is a classic, Grandpaw Would (that's the one that has Pop Queen on it). All his other albums have tried too hard, IMO.
I saw him years ago performing at the Fireside Bowl in Chicago, right around when he started dating Claire Danes, and yes she was there, and yes she was a cutie.
