Chris Benoit vs. Sid Vicious
World Heavyweight Championship Match, WCW Souled Out (16.01.00)

This is interesting because he won the very belt he is wearing now. I think if they had backstage footage where he allegedly threw the WCW belt in the trash on his way out of the arena would have made this a must own.

i think the owen hart tribute match already makes this a must-own

The Benoit vs Regal match from the Pillman Memorial show was a great match, I saw it live.

Alot of people debunked the rumor that he threw the belt in the trash after he left the PPV that night, so no one really thinks its true, and plus, he seems like he would have more class towards a title belt than that. the Regal match (which has been said that that match was the main reason that Regal got his job back in WWE at the time) and the Owen Hart Tribute match make this worth buying alone. on another note, where is my Chris Jericho double DVD set WWE!

Beniot does have class but I haven't heard anyone debunk the belt in the trash story. Facts are he hated his job, his employers, Kevin Sullivan (writer at the time) and the backstage politics. Even the end to the match was suspect because many knew he wanted ou of WCW.

This is a must own for me. He wasnt really in my top three of favorite wrestlers but i always loved the guy and still enjoy seeing him perform. I hope more of these double disc DVDs focused on a certain wrestler keep being released. I still hope for the day i see a DVD all about my man Sting!

The next ones that come out will be a special double DVD collection of Eddie Guerrero on 9/28 and a DOUBLE DVD of The Rise and Fall of ECW on 11/16.

Benoit never threw the belt in the trash. He handed it back the next day and was given his full release along with Guererro, Malenko and Saturn. WCW thought by putting the belt on him and promising to push him as the top guy (or close to it) would make him break from the others and stay, it didn't. Track down some Wrestling Observer Newsletters from that time from (2/00) and Dave Meltzer gives the whole rundown.

Tried for the last 45 minutes to find something from that time period. I've found everything from he never entered a WCW arena after the PPV to he showed up at Nitro and was asked or asked to leave.

I'm confident that the trash story was reported by more than one source but it was almost 4 years ago. Maybe Benoit will answer this on the new dvd, but I doubt it.

I really doubt Benoit would any championship belt in the trash...he has too much respect for the business to do that.

I think people are confusing Benoit with the Medusa incident.

I'm not sure. Remember what was happening in WCW at that time. The ratings were in the tank (averaging in the 2.2 percent a week). Management was in turmoil. The older vet's had more say in their own storylines as well as the stories of the newbies. There was no direction in WCW at that time and for quite a time to come. Six of it's stars wanted out of their contracts (the "Radicals" and Konnan & Shane Dougles).

For Benoit, it was even more personnal. He was dumped from the Horsemen angle. He wasn't going anywhere in his career. His friend Jerhico was telling them how much better it was in the WWF. And the clincher: Kevin Sullivan was now the head writer/booker for WCW.

He was prolly told on his way out that he would be stripped or drop the belt the next night on Raw. With all that, why not toss the belt in the trash. Your own company doesn't believe in you.

He may be a respectable class act, but at that time, who knows?

Fans who were waiting for the new 2-disk "Hard Knocks - The Chris Benoit Story" DVD will have to wait a week longer.

Sony, who is the distributors of all the WWE DVDs, has sent word to all of their retailers that they are currently 3-5 business days behind schedule printing the Benoit DVD. This means that while some stores might be lucky enough to get it in next Tuesday like it was originally scheduled, most fans will have to wait until the following week to pick up their copy.

It never happened......It would have been all over the place if it did and reported by more than reputable people. Let the myth die and enjoy the dvd this week.

Okay, I know it's only been a day, but has anyone watched most or all of the set yet? Let's hear some reviews! Thanks.

The set is awesome. I could have done without the WWE matches(i have all of them on dvd) but every other match is great. The Owen Tribute match is something you need to see to believe. The Japanese matches look real sharp and are good. The WCW matches look crystal clear and all are awesome. I got the last one from my best buy. Sorry for such a short review.

idiot question, but for the wcw matches, is Benoit's original non nu metal theme song there (for the gab match, he attacked Sullivan in the isle)

MovieMaster11

I think they replaced it with his new theme.

noticed 2 possible edits.
*for the superbrawl match with 2 cold scorpio, only Tony Schivoni is the announcer heard, when there is clearly another person talking with him, but the other person is not heard.
*the other one is during the steel cage match. JR says something like "the richest prize in our indurstry" then silence, when he actually continued "the wwf title", you can see that he was talking from the angle they used.

also, why oh why do htey still use that annoying lame cheer when there is no sound?

That also happened on the Mick Foley disc during Cactus vs Sting. I wonder why and who was the mystery announcer maybe Jessie.

I am pretty sure in the WCW stuff it was Jessie.

Anyway this set is AWESOME! I have to admit I thought WWE was going to blow it and not do as much with this as they should but the documentary on here was one of the best I have ever seen from him. I would have liked to have seen a little more on the ECW/Japan part of his life but hey we still got more than I expected (ie expected a 30 second gloss over on each).

BTW how many times did they have to show that slow-mo footage of the SABU incident?? I have seen that shot about a million times now and every time I completely cringe!! (same as when the NFL loves to show that Joe Theisman broken leg deal --- OUCH!!).

Anyway back on topic there were other Benoit matches I would have loved to have on there but what they gave us was dam good and here is hoping they do just as good a job with the Eddie Guerrero(that final match with Guerrero and Malenko has to be on there from ECW -- that was pure good stuff!!) set and PLEASE OH PLEASE do the Rise and Fall of ECW set some justice!! There is so much good stuff to use from the ECW era that I hope they do it right(but I have little faith in that right now)!!

Lastly anybody notice how 2 of WWE's biggest names who battled Benoit for the title (Triple H and Shawn Michaels) NEVER made a comment in the entire documentary?? I found that to be VERY STRANGE! I mean you would think these 2 guys could have said just a few words ......

Anyway I just want to thank WWE for doing such a good job with this set and I hope they continue with this trend!

Is the Bret/Benoit match unedited? The match was great, but I remember people with dishes raving about how much better it was to see the whole match without commercials.

Rypro 525
08-12-04, 10:50 PM
there are still the commercial breaks (it was about 40 min with the commercials skipped, so i guess it was about an hour long. how can people with dishes have watched the entire match?
