Prince fans...IT'S ABOUT TIME!!!
Sorry if this has already been mentioned, but I couldn't find anything...so here goes:
From the 5/28 USA Today:
"Prince is about to get his due on DVD. In addition to a 20th-anniversary two-disc special edition of Purple Rain, Warner Home Video on Aug. 24 is releasing Graffiti Bridge and Under the Cherry Moon on DVD for the first time.
The new version of Purple Rain ($26.99) has a widescreen digital transfer of the film and remixed Dolby Digital surround sound. New extras include featurettes on the Oscar-winning music and eight music videos.
'We wanted to bring (the treatment of the film on DVD) up to standards,' says Warner's Mike Radiloff.
Prince's directorial debut, Under the Cherry Moon (1986), which co-starred Kristin Scott Thomas, and the sequel to Purple Rain, Graffiti Bridge, will be one-disc releases ($19.97). Each will have widescreen video and Dolby Digital surround sound."
IMHO, Warner must not have very high "standards" if this is all they can do with these movies. But, it is about time.

Well at least they are getting Anamorphic Widescreen releases the original Purple Rain is Fool Screen. Not every movie is gonna be loaded with features, some directors/actors/producers don't even care about there early movies. So they won't contribute squat to the release

Very much looking forward to this revamped release. Not only was the "old" DVD full screen, but in some of the songs (like "Darling Nikki"), the audio is out of sync with the video!
UNDER THE CHERRY MOON has a fantastic soundtrack, but the movie is a appalling. Nothing, however, beats GRAFFITI BRIDGE for sheer awfulness.

Admittedly, I'm still a little vague on some terminology in the DVD realm, but does "widescreen digital transfer" imply this is going to be anamorphic? The impression I got from the description is that you really aren't sure, and also that "Dolby Digital surround sound" means it might just be 2 or 3 channel, and not necessarily 5.1.
Correct me if I'm wrong.

The_Infidel...AFAIK, you are correct in assuming that the info given does not necessarily mean anamorphic transfer or 5.1 audio.
My guess would be they will all probably be anamorphic but possibly only Purple Rain will be 5.1 audio.
But, ya never know until they release an official spec list or, actually, until you actually put the disc in the machine.

I also can't help but wonder about Sign O' the Times. This was a theatrical release as well, so why not release it on DVD along with the others?

Unfortunately, I don't think WHV owns the rights to Sign O' the Times.
