WB and keep cases on classic titles

WB has put the new Cary Grant films to be released 6/1/04 in keep cases. This follows the Marx Bros set that did the same. Anybody heard reason why they have switched to these older titles in keep case....Anything not in a box set released...not counting Last Samurai, T3, or the Matrix sequels.

I know everyone sees a WB has got with the program threads, but where is the reasoning.

for those who care....bad news...no inserts

I can do without an insert (never look at in anyway), be nice to get away from snappers since they make my shelf look messy

I really dislike the snappers and I really hope WB will put all their films in keep cases. Is it cheaper to make snappers than keep cases?

well warner owns the snapper company so, for them it is probably more cost effective...espicially in something with a huge run.

I'd just seen the new Marx Bros. releases in keepers @ Borders. Let's hope this is a sign of things to come!

Hope they would start re-releasing some of their older titles in keepcases. I'd pick up The Maltese Falcon, Key Largo, and a few others if only they were in keepcases.

I got a bunch in at work today, it's one disc with no extras whatsoever...there's also a special edition with a soundtrack and such.

It looks like if you hate snapper, the 3-disc version is the way to go.

gonna get the big mystic river myself. Though i don't know that i would not purchase a good movie (Key Largo, or Maltese Falcon) just becuase it is in a snapper.

I do wish Maltese Falcon would get the 2-disc treatment though

Obviously, you're unfamiliar with the Oliver Stone discs ... suffice it to say, a second disc didn't stop WB from using snapper cases, they just decided ... it's kinda of hard to explain but, basically, the cover folds out, and there's a slot which just contains the disc and a sleeve. It's really ugly and doesn't feel safe, though it probably is. I moved 'Any Given Sunday' to a thinpak two-disc, and I no longer had the old 'JFK' disc anyway (the new one is proper), and I think those were the only two movies affected (though there was a two-disc 'Nixon' in the box).

That said, I was under the same impression you seem to have been; I thought the only difference between the standard and the special was the CD soundtrack, I didn't realize that *all* of the extras (even the commentary, apparently) are left off the standard.

The Mystic River 1 disc is a snapper.

There is no 2-disc Mystic River.

The 3-disc is in a Digipak case.

Could you imagine it, if all of Hitchcock's films were in Keepcases, the mega-box set you could build, with all the spines flush with each other? Sure, the insignias would be different, but still, they'd all fit together! You could do a chronological Hitch series, save for the cheapie PD early works... but even THOSE are in keepcases!

Add to that, the rumors of the AHP season sets. I'm drooling, forgive me.

Back on my meds,

CS

P.S. Seriously? Criterion isn't doing The Paradine Case? Wassup with that? Is Anchor Bay gonna rerelease it with extras? The AB original is OOP, right?

Spartan (atleast in Canada) is in a keeper case. Though the box art is slightly different so perhaps it's Canada only.

Although not a WB title, but I saw New Line's original Blade in a keepcase at a indoor flea-market at Kissimmee, FL. And from the rest of the contents of the "booth", (they) didn't appear to be bootlegs. Looked like legit titles to me. They even had several copies of the now OOP T2 Ultimate Edition.

I've seen that before. Hollywood Video commonly converts snappers into keepcases before selling them. I saw this most with the original Superbit release of Panic Room. It looked perfect in a keepcase, and I doubt Hollywood Video sells bootlegs in their 3 for $25 sale.
