The Way of the Gun discussion

I couldn't find a previous thread on this film, so I thought that i'd start one.

The Way of the Gun has become one of my favorite films. I think all of the actors are top notch and the writing/directing is great.

I am not a huge Phillipe fan, but him and Del Torro were fantastic in this movie.

This is one of those films in which I love every aspect.

Other opinions?

I like just about everybody involved (McQuarrie, Phillipe, del Toro), and the Sarah Silverman scene is crackerjack. That said, the movie was a huge disappointment and I didn't like it.

I do own the DVD, however, since a major portion of the movie was filmed in and around my office building.

Wow...where did this come from? I had almost completely forgotten about this movie.

I liked it - owned the DVD for a little while, then decided it wasn't something I really needed to watch multiple times. Was a decent flick, but nothing more for me.

bought this movie used for 5.95 or something (the better looking cover .)

I personally love the film, I think it's way underrated and overall its really enjoyable. I agree as well I'm not a Ryan Phillipe fan at all, but I like his character in this movie. His little speech to the sperm donor doctor is rather funny (the womens rights/homophobe thing)

I love this movie. The opening scene is awesome, as is the slowest speed chase on film.

Yeah, I really dug the vibe on this film. It seemed like every character was so cool and collected, they all knew their role in whatever they were doing. Except for the doctor, maybe. The standoff scene where they are trying to grab the girl was terrific. Same with the car chase and the whole end shootout. Hardly any dialogue, yet everyone is doing exactly what they should. And when there is dialogue, it is really sharp. Not witty or pop-referential, just sharp.

Nice to see this thread, I love this movie. The shootout at the end is one of the best ever in my opinion, the shots and gun sounds are off the chain.

I particularly love the sequence when Juliette Lewis is walking to the door and all you hear is the gun fight. Parker grabs here and drive off and all that's left are bodies on the ground. Cool scene.

I saw this in the theater when it was originally released with a buddy of mine. The opening scene with Sarah Silverman...you guys know which one After the initial strike my friend and I were dying of laughter...what makes this so funny was there was at the most four to five couples sitting in front of us with the guys trying not to laugh

The opening scene is just classic, but even though I own the movie, that is the only scene I have actually watched.

This is one of my favourite films of all time, I can watch this at any time of the day and feel great after (is that wrong?).
I think everyone is brilliant in it, esp. James Cain and Nicky Katt.
Also it is the DVD I have listened to the commentery the most.
My favourite scenes are the opening, The kidnapping/shoot out scene...damnit all of its my favourite scene.
Best lines:
"are you ready for the man dance?"
"I don't think this a brains sort of operation"
"There is always free cheese in the mousetrap"
Dare I say it? better then The Usual Suspects?, And I love that film as much.

I remember enjoying the film at the time and thought it was better than the negative responses it was getting.

If anyone's interested in getting it, I saw it in the $5.50 Wal Mart bin this morning.
