Suggestions for players with DVI out

Recently purchased a new Sammy DLP 61" and am searching for a good DVD player with DVi. Revieiws for the Samsung HD931 are kinda mixed at best. Any other models out there that are decent??? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The samsung only supports PC level DVI outputs, which is not ideal. There's a bunch of new players coming out in a month or so, so you may want to wait.

Or look for a good quality player and connect it with component. Personally I am not sold on DVI as a connection even though I use it for my HD receiver.

Have you considered the LST-3510A if you don't have an HDTV box yet? It's $398 plus shipping right now, and includes a very good DVD player which scales to 720p & 1080i out of the HDCP compliant DVI port, as well as gives you ATSC & QAM HDTV capabilities. That's loads of bang for your buck.

Momitsu V880. Some avs posters have encoutered loader problem with the Motitsu but many love its PQ.

Thanks for the responses. I haven't used DVI connections before but I figured I'd get one to try it out. I have component connections now but wanted to try the DVI.

The only place I found the LST-3510a was at Value electronics for $449 delivered. Where is it $398? My other concern is incorporating a player and HD receiver into one. I know less components and connections, but what of the quality of this unit.

Cool theatre set up Brian.

Start here:

Sign up for their free OnePass discount, which gives you a 1% discount on top of any other discounts.

Then, use this for a discounted price (expires 5/31/04):

Use coupon code: 10YEARSALE for $25 off.

The quality is very good. The HD side is awesome, better than the Samsung SIR-T165 and SIR-T151 models that I also have. DVD quality is good too (I also have a Vinc Bravo D1, which uses the same Sigma EM8500 chip as the Momitsu V880).

How many DVI inputs does your DLP have? If it's only one, i'm assuming you're going to connect a true HD source to it, such as Cable or Satellite. In my case, since that was what I had done, I purchased the Zenith DVB318 to get 1080i DVD playback over component. PQ is outstanding and close to HBO-HD depending on the source material.

I've talked to a few friends and they seem to agree with BladeZ. They seem to think the DVI use with DVD is a negligible improvement (a couple of friends have HD plasma monitors). Any opinions????

I agree and that is why I use my DVI for my HD receiver.

With high quality HDCP passing DVI switchers falling close to the $200 mark now (and probably even lower later), I personally wouldn't cut corners with quality. This being said, with the LST-3510a, you don't have to, since it combines the DVD & HDTV.

I personally wouldn't say that DVI is of negligible improvement, but it certainly isn't a huge improvement. It gives you a more stable, cleaner picture, especially with DLP sets (seeing as DLP's are the only TRUE beginning to end digital device).

Anyone know if the LST-3510A will work over DVI with my Panasonic PT-L300U Projector? It has DVI-D and no HDCP support, I believe. I'm mainly interested in it's terrestrial HDTV capabilities (and eventually HDTV via cable).

Also, will I need to buy a DVI cable and HDTV antenna for the LST-3510A? If so, can someone recommend some? Thanks.

The LST-3510A requires a HDCP compliant DVI port.

A DVI cable is not included.

There really is no such thing as a HDTV antenna. There's just UHF and VHF. You need to see what is required in your local area:

http://www.antennaweb.org/aw/Address.aspx

The ChannelMaster 4228 is an awesome UHF for the price (about $45 or so).

Since I can't use DVI, is it possible for me to view HDTV through component? How is the quality of the DVD and HDTV over component when compared to DVI?

Yes, component is perfectly fine.

As for quality that is probably rather subjective.
