Oh you want some real money

At least Fox did not put up New York Minute or else you would be taking a pay cut

This should do well plus I think I Robot will be a surprise hit.

There's an editorial in USA Today (linked on Drudge) where a scientist is slamming the hell out of how impossible for the things in this movie to happen. Of course, most of us enjoy a good science fiction movie realizing it's make believe. But this scientist is concerned how politicians are using it for environmental causes.
Fine, whatever... then I learned that this movie is based on a book written by Art Bell. Ugh. Now I'm not sure I'll even rent this for fun.

A guy who would take the events in "The Day After Tomorrow" seriously. You know, like the guy who directed Megiddo, and is sure the events are going to take place anytime now.

This didn't help me very much. I have also never heard of Megiddo.

Why can't anybody ever give a straight answer?

Info. on Art Bell:

http://www.who2.com/artbell.html

http://seti-teamartbell.com/

His radio shows are pretty wild - very conspiracy-oriented. Basically, he's the kind of guy who would view the X-Files episodes (especially the wackier ones) as fact.

I'm getting tired of disaster movies with FX as the star.

I'm still not sure if I want to pay $10 to see this film. Might be a rental.

Since the effects are (supposedely) the star of this movie, it seems to be screaming to be seen on the big screen. I'll do it that justice, but I'm not expecting much.

I was interested until they showed an exteneded 10-minute preview of this a couple weeks ago. Holy cow, that made it look bad.

I agree. These disgusting films should not be made and filmgoers should not support them. A strong message needs to be sent to the film community to create intelligent, meaningful films, and not FX-laden nonsense like TDAT.

I'm still gonna see it though.

Ha. Personally these FX laden effects movies I enjoy if they're decent. And regarding the political use of this movie...I think once people see it, and realize it's just a dumb disaster movie, all that controversy will die away. I mean come on...I don't care who wrote it, it still is Roland Emmerich directing. And I don't think he really knows how to do anything but blow shit up real good. And that I will admit...he does very well. He's definately top of his game when it comes to destroying things.

I'm surprised to see so much interest in it. I don't mean to threadcrap but this movie does not pique my interest at all. It looks like the hundreds of disaster movies to come before it and doesn't seem to offer anything new. Again I haven't seen it just my impressions by the previews. I think it will bomb but maybe it will usher in a new era of disaster films like the 70's or 90's.

Saw a preview earlier tonight. It wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be, but not very good either. Its premise is too absurd to consider even in the context of a brain-dead summer film, and the effects aren't numerous enough to make it worth seeing.

It kept my attention, but barely. There are only two really good scenes, both involving natural disasters striking major U.S. cities (tornadoes in Los Angeles and flooding in New York). If you think 20 minutes of superb visual effects make it worth sitting through another hour-and-a-half of dull survival scenerios, then by all means, check it out. Otherwise, skip it.

I don't have very high hopes for this one, but definitely plan on seeing it opening weekend. I'm a sucker for disaster movies, what can I say?
