"Today We Lost Richard Biggs" (Babylon 5)
JMS just posted this message to rastb5.mod:
Richard Biggs played Dr. Stephen Franklin for all five of Babylon 5's seasons.
Terrible, terrible news. Please keep his family and friends in your thoughts and prayers.
I was awakened today with several phone calls from cast members and Doug to pass along the terrible news that this morning, Richard Biggs passed away.
We're still gathering information, so take none of this as firm word, but what seems to have happened, happened quickly. He woke up, got up out of bed...and went down. The paramedics who showed up suggested it was either an aneurysm or a massive stroke.
His family members have been informed, and all of the the cast have, as far as we can determine, also been informed.
This is a terrible loss for all of us. Richard was a consummate professional but more than that he was an honorable, stand-up guy. If he gave you his word on something, you never had to wonder about it afterward. He was always helpful and supportive of all the cast, even those who only came in for one episode, always with a ready smile and determined to do whatever it took to make the scene work. He was, quite simply, a terrific guy, and everyone here is just devastated at the news.
More word as this develops. We may try to have some kind of fund raiser to help give whatever assistance may be helpful for his kids.
We all miss him terribly.

I'm sitting here trying to type something profound, and all I can think of is how terrible and sad this is. The guy was 43 and in great shape. I've met him many, many times, and he's always been as pleasant and personable as you could ever hope. Simply a genuinely nice guy. The Biggs and Carter show was supposed to return to Atlanta in a few months, and it will be really sad to see Jason (assuming he still attends) without him. Just horrible.

Has this been confirmed yet? Nothing on any of the news sites, Richard's official website or IMDB.
This reminds me of when we lost Johnathan Brandis and it took a good week to confirm the story.

I'm at a total loss for words. He was supposed to attend a con in MI two weeks ago and pulled out unexpectedly - I wonder if that is related. My condolences go to his family.

I got a call last night from my mom about this, she was very upset. We've both met Richard several times over the last few years. Every time, he was gracious, friendly, and personable.
I always joked you would know if Richard was replaced by a robot if he didn't pull out pictures of his kids within 30 seconds after meeting you. Even though he probably met thousands of B5 fans every weekend at Cons, two years after meeting us the first time, he remembered my wife and I and asked to see pictures of our daughter without us saying a thing.
This saddens me a great deal. He was a good guy.

This is really, really shocking and very sad. I thought he was one of the standout actors on Babylon 5, and he came across as a very personable man. There was a genuine warmth that came across in his acting.
The ironic thing is that I just finished the Babylon 5 Season 5 box set this last week and the episode where Dr. Franklin leaves the station really comes to mind. The image of Dr. Franklin walking alone across the walkway to his ship is burned into my memory right now because I know he won't be coming back.
He will be greatly missed.

Unfortunately, for those still holding out hope this is a mistake, a friend of mine got a call from Jerry Doyle today. He was very broken up about it.
