New Sonic Youth- "Sonic Nurse" due on June 8

This album is getting early unanimous rave reviews.
I was pretty much down on SY after the release of Goo almost 15 years ago. Then came Washing Machine which partially restored my faith it what had been my favorite band.
It took Murray Street to convince me that they really were back, it's one of the best albums of the past few years, IMO. Even the recent rerelease of Dirty in a deluxe edition has caused me to revisit their early Geffen days...
And here comes Nurse. Apparently it's on par with Daydream Nation which blew my 15 year old mind when it came out. The band calls it: "Bare Trees era Fleetwood Mac combined with Jealous Again era Black Flag". That sounds like vintage Thurston Moore sillyness. I can't wait.

Quite apart from Moore's statement, the album is very good. Their best since Washing Machine* easily. I don't know that it will be on par with Daydream Nation -which, IMO, is not their best album; I'd go with Sister- but I think it will easily fit into the top 10 best SY albums when the dust settles (kinda kick ass that you can put that number on this band and still see them going so strong).
*You might take that with a grain of salt because I have a biased opinion toward Washing Machine: it was the second tape I ever owned so I (probably) love it more than the older fans who lived through the triple knock-out of Evol - Sister - Daydream Nation.

IMHO, Daydream Nation is their best album so topping or equaling it won't be easy.
Also on June 8, Sonic Youth will release a DVD collection of their videos called Corporate Ghost.

I've heard it. It's very good. Definitely not as good as Daydream Nation or Sister, but still excellent. I'd say it's on par with A Thousand Leaves, which is one of my favorite SY albums.
For the record, I hated Murray Street. The whole thing sounded completely lethargic.

I was so very close to picking up Sister yesterday - for some reason I have never forked over the cash for it - and I don't know why.

But, IMO, what puts the album over the top is the incredible Radical Adults Lick Godhead Style which is just about the best thing about Sept 11 recorded. Scary shit.

B.A., don't get Sister just yet. In a Q&A last year, Thurston Moore said they were remastering their entire back catalogue. It should be worth it to hold out for the eventual remaster.

-edit-
Sister is typically marked a "Super Saver" CD, as well, so you won't be paying too much on the whole. Besides, you may decide that the CD doesn't hold up to expectations and the lengthy re-issue will be toilsome (though you may get a pretty penny for it on eBay).

Does anyone know how the free ticket at Amoeba thing will work? Is it one ticket per person no matter how copies of the album they buy, or can you buy more than one album and get more than one ticket (presumabely with a limit)?
