The Kurt Russell appreciation thread!

I first saw him in "Escape from New York" as a kid in a movie theatre and he had that Clint Eastwood attitude that made him so cool...

I never was a harcore fan but I always enjoyed his performances.Sure he made some crappy movies (Captain Ron anyone?) but hey, who hasn't . I recently learned that he was the voice for Elvis in "Forrest Gump"!! Will have to watch that again heh.

My faves:

-Tombstone. He added a vulnerability and a human aspect to Earp which was refreshing.

-Big trouble in Little China. Come on, it's Jack Burton!!

-Vanilla Sky. Kinda subdued, taking a supporting role.

-Dark Blue. My surprise performance of 2002 (because I was expecting crap). Russell alone made that movie great.

What are your faves?

Big T in little C was the best.

"You know what Jack Burton always says at a time like this.....................................what the hell" - love it.

I liked his performance in Tombstone quite a bit, but most recently I thought he was great as Herb Brooks in Miracle.

My all-time favorite actor, been posting about that here since my first day at the boards. As in real life, I seem to be alone in my love of Kurt Russell. Glad at least some people here dig him.

Take that Ashton and Demi!!

Kurt Russell has a fantastic charm that matches his acting ability. Great performer. Still, he was at his best with John Carpenter. I even thought his performance in Escape From LA was great (no matter what else you think about the rest of the movie).

And if you guys haven't seen the Carpenter-directed made for TV movie Elvis, you have to. It may be Russell's best performance.

It's kinda foggy, but I remember him talking to his brother/shadow, I would have to watch it again. Is it available on DVD?

I've always been a big kurt fan, he just has a way about him.
He picks roles that I don't think would suit many other actors of his age. These are my favourites:
Tombstone,
Stargate,
Executive decision,
Overboard,
Tango & Cash.
Special mentions to:
Backdraft- I'm sorry but NO ONE says "god dammit!" like Kurt,
3000 miles to Graceland- I don't care anyone says I love this film.

If we draw a hard line between "best" and "favorite," I can safely say that Kurt Russell is my favorite actor. If I ever made a movie of any kind -- horror, comedy, musical, farce, pr0n -- I'd want him as my star. The guy is good in everything he's in and has elevated some otherwise terrible work to enjoyable films.

das

Just remember what ol' Jack Burton does when the earth quakes, the poison arrows fall from the sky, and the pillars of Heaven shake. Yeah, Jack Burton just looks that big old storm right in the eye and says: "Give me your best shot. I can take it."

I agree, he is one of the mist underrated, unerappreciated actors out there. His casual non-chalant portrayals make him a great "every man."

Any thoughts of the (probably Disney started) rumor that he may get an Oscar nod for "Miracle"?

Gilligan's Island, baby!

Kurt has always been a very good actor. And he has the range to really stretch his chops. From comedy to drama to action.

Which makes Breakdown all too realistic. Solid film.

This may be old but back when they were discussing new Batman movie ideas, someone put up the nod for KR to play an older Batman/Bruce Wayne training a new Batman ala the KnightsEnd comic series. I always thought this was a great choice. Probably because he seems like an "every man."
