From billboard.com: New Cuts Featured On Van Halen's 'Best'

Van Halen has recorded three new songs for inclusion on "The Very Best of Van Halen," expected to come out later this summer via Warner Music Group. The cuts "It's About Time," "Up for Breakfast" and "Learning To See" feature vocalist Sammy Hagar, who is rejoining the group for the first time in eight years.

The double-disc "Very Best" picks up the Van Halen story with the iconic "Eruption" from the group's self-titled 1978 debut. Every major hit is present, from the David Lee Roth-era smashes "Jump," "Panama," "I'll Wait" and "(Oh) Pretty Woman" to such Hagar-associated material as "When It's Love," "Why Can't This Be Love" and "Finish What Ya Started."

Also featured are live versions of "Ain't Talking 'Bout Love," "Jump" and "Panama" from the 1993 concert set "Right Here, Right Now." Notably excluded are any songs from Van Halen's latest studio album, 1998's "Van Halen III," the lone release to feature former Extreme vocalist Gary Cherone.

Van Halen's first tour since 1998 will kick off June 11 in Greensboro, N.C. Manager Irving Azoff recently told Billboard the trek will ultimately consist of four legs of 22 shows each.

According to a spokesperson, the album's running order has not yet been finalized, contrary to the track list posted on Van Halen's official Web site.

no sense in scratching heads anymore. we all know how has-beens handle the releases once they've stopped being superstars. about 10 best-ofs, 2-3 box sets, an anthology, and several dvds.

see: the who, david bowie, the doors

Well if that's the case Hollowgen, I'd LOVE to see a box set version of the DLR era with some live concerts!

I skipped the first collection - may snag this one since I haven't upgraded any of the DLR remasters, nor do I have several of the later albums.

This looks good to me. I was going to go the legal download route and get my own Best of, but this will be cheaper. I'm surprised no Mean Street. I would have also liked to see Man on a Mission (i dig the riff).

Mean Streets
Little Guitars
Mine All Mine
I Don't Want To (Hear What Love Can Do)

Those should all be on there IMO but they did a pretty good job of getting the major hits from the albums.

Also Humans Being, Can't Get This Stuff No More, and Me Wise Magic are missing from best of Volume I.

The only other song that would like to see on there is Crossing Over which was on the import version of Balance.

I'll add "So This Is Love"...Fair Warning is totally ignored (but 1 song) from this set which is a shame since it is a great album.

There are only about 4-5 Sammy era songs I like....no buy for me.

Why the hell are they putting live tracks on there of songs that are already there in their studio form. Stupidity.

Is that the song that makes the poetic statement, "Only time will tell if we past the test of time?"

Like, deep man .

No. That song would be 'Why Can't This Be Love' ; and no, the lyric is "Only time will tell if we stand the test of time"

We are talking about rock 'n' roll music here, why does it have to be poetic and 'deep'??

If you want 'deep', go listen to Pearl Jam or Creed, and stay out of the Van Halen threads, especially if you can't even keep the songs/lyrics/eras straight.

Well... The remaining tracks from VH, VH II, Women & Children First, Fair Warning, Diver Down and 1984.

Fair Warning is their best album.

And, while I'm here, these "best of" CDs... I don't get it. It's not like a compilation of great 60's surf tunes, ya know? It's Van Halen... If you like em, you already own all of their albums (well, up until David Lee split)... So, exactly, who's the target audience? People who have never heard Van Halen? Surely they don't expect their fans to buy this retread for three new tracks... Or do they?

I'm sorry Mr. Lee Roth.

I was just making a joke about the faux deepness in that song. I like Panama and Jump if it counts ...

The lack of thought behind the track selection baffles me. This basically ignores the fact that we have a Best Of Vol. I. If they at least concentrated on other album tracks from both eras, skipped the live material, they could have had a very nice Vol 2 set that complemented the first one. The new tracks will have to be VERY good to convince me to buy it. From what I've heard of "It's About Time", I won't be rushing to the store for this one.
