Films that contain clips from other films.

There have been a lot of films which contain clips from other films, usually because a charcter is in a movie theatre or watching TV.

I was wondering how many films we can name that illustrate this device.

To start you off:

Targets - shows clips from "The Criminal Code" on a TV & "The Terror" in a screening room and at a drive-in.

Weird Science - Contains clips from "Frankenstein" on a TV.

The Blob - contains clips from "Daughter of Darkness" in a movie theater.

Beware! The Blob - contains a clip from the original "The Blob", and the clip they show contains clips of "Daughter of Darkness". The only film I know that shows a clip of a film which shows a clip of another film... it's to the second power!

Nuovo cinema Paradiso. There are several clips, including Chaplin's The Immigrant, if I'm not mistaken.

In addition, and also more recently, The Dreamers featured several clips for older films.

"Sugar & Spice" has clips from Heat and Point Break. I only know this because I worked on the film and spent a whole day watching these movies to see who's dialogue we would need to replace.

God there are hundreds if not thousands.

The Limey was unique one..because they used footage of General Zod (er Terrance) from an older movie as an actual flashback!

AUSTIN POWERS: GOLDMEMBER does something similar - showing a clip from ALFIE as a flashback for Michael Caine's character.

Yes, you are correct. Vertigo features James Stewart starring in a film whose lead female character is named Madelaine, and 12 Monkeys features Madelaine Stowe, in a film whose leading male character is named James.

Oh, and in Vivre Sa Vie (one of my favorite films), Anna Karina goes to a cinema and watches The Passion of Joan of Arc, from which we see a few seconds.

Street Fighter,The Mack, and A Better Tomorrow 2 play in True Romance.

The hotel room in Natural Born Killers plays:
Scarface
Midnight Express
The Wild Bunch

Someone in Rules of Attraction is watching The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari

Biff watches A Fistful of Dollars in Back to the Future 2

It's a Wonderful life plays in different languages in Home Alone.

The crowd in The Harder They Come is watching Django

Tom Hanks flips through The Exorcist and Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 in The 'Burbs.

The crowd in King of New York is watching Nosferatu

A Gangbanger in American Me is watching Abbot and Costello go to Mars LOL

Some Don "The Dragon" Wilson movie I saw on cable played MEMORABLE clips from T.N.T Jackson
