Okay, I'm sure these are popular threads here, but what the hell. My roommate is moving out and I'm going to need a new TV. I'm going to say that for me, a TV will be 80% for video games and 20% for DVD viewing. No broadcast or cable. I'm really interested in prog scan for my Gamecube and Xbox.. I'm looking at 27"-36".

First of all, is prog scan worth it in that size range?

Secondly, make some suggestions for TVs with my criteria. :D

I own a 32" Sony VVEGA (http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?id=1051806226189&skuId=4725266&type=product) flatscreen and am extremely satisfied with it. For movies it looks spectacular especially when calibrated properly with Avia or DVE, and with the 16:9 enhanced mode you get some incredible resolution. For the money it's probably one of the best analog sets you can get out there. Personally I find HDTV to still be too much money and couldn't justify spending so much. I got my 32" WEGA FS for around $600 at Best Buy.

For games it looks great as well. It has a vivid mode on the menu that makes colors more vibrant and is perfect for video games. Hook up the game system with S-video or component and it will be dazzling.

Hope this helps some! One thing, though, the TV is very heavy (170lbs or so), that is the only real complaint about the TV I have.

Hi, thanks for the response. We are actually using a 27" Wega now and I do love how it looks. I may get one for myself if I don't find anything else.

I saw a 30" Widescreen at Best Buy.. I think it was Toshiba.. it was priced to sell for me. Now.. 4:3 mode on this will equate to about 25" which is close to what I've been used to for a while now.. on the other hand, for the same price I could get a 32" 4:3 TV. Then there's the cool factor of having people over to watch DVDs on the widescreen TV. I've got a few weeks before I make my purchase (maybe 2).. so I'm wondering what you guys would think is better.

30" 16:9 or 32-36" 4:3?

Go with a Wega. You can't beat them for what you're looking for.

I've had a 27" Wega for about 4 years. Games look amazing on it, as do DVDs with the 16x9 enhanced mode.

It looked good and bad here depending on what you're displaying.

Perhaps the Samsung TXN3271HF 32" is a better choice...

i got those ADVENT HDTV 27" TV...

to be honest, i don't like it too much... my old 27" flat Toshiba was much better interm of colour....

the ADVENT was cheap... but the picture quality ain't really that great... i rather go with Samsung HDTV or EDTV 30" or 32"

hope it helps
