Saw it at SXSW in March. It's hilarious. I predict it'll be the summer's -- if not the year's -- indie cult hit.

Screw The Hollywood Reporter.

I've heard nothing but praise for this film and the trailer was great. Napoleon Dynamite is my most anticipated film of the summer.

I almost fell out of my chair laughing the 1st time I saw the trailer a few weeks back. I love that guy's delivery.

Saw it aswell a bit back. It's entertaining and is indeed very "indie"

I'm not even sure what The Hollywood Reporter article was trying to say. Very middle of the road.

I would say it's a cross between welcome to the doll house and and.. and... and... Ghost world. It has the beyond strange hickish characters like the gas station beef jerky guy with the doll house story to it.

Good stuff all around.

Though I'll have to say I disagree with Kenny

I predict it'll be the summer's -- if not the year's -- indie cult hit.

That title will go to GARDEN STATE.

That guy seemed pissed at the situation more so than the film itself. That review should be tossed out on that ground alone.

Jackskeleton: ...did you even bother to read to the end of the review...???... the author winds up saying that it's a good, funny, charming movie... I don't think his - actually quite positive - review should be "tossed out" at all - imnsho, of course...

AHA!!! So you didn't bother to read through to the end of the review! I thought so! Shame on you then for saying the review deserves to be "tossed out" without actually reading it!!!

...and, btw, I never use more than three (3) dots at a time - and never in the middle of a word...

saw it last night. One of the funniest movies I've ever seen, at least in a theatre. I could not stop laughing, esp, during a key scene near the end when napoleon dances in front of the school. My stomach hurt afterward. I loved every minute of this movie!

I just saw it and I was a little let down but not too much. It wasn't as rip roaring funny as I thought it would be, but it still had some very funny moments. It also seemed like the crowd I was with didn't get half the shit I did. I mean they laughed a lot but some seems they didn't get stuff like The black chick getting off the bus and later when she gave the guy the Bling necklace which had me rolling. It seemed like the crowd was either weirded out or simply didn't think it was all that funny.

and why is it that there are literally two identical threads about this film?? (oh and I personally thought this was completely overrated and I agree with Giantrobo the film was no where as near as a 'rip roaring' as other's feel it to be).

It sucked to be honest. Had a good last 15 minutes, but everything before that was lifeless and frankly, stupid. I loved the trailer though. . .:(

I just saw it tonight and thought it was hilarious. Though my friend and I both agree it would be funnier with a big group of people and really drunk.

Is ND just slapstick comedy or what? I don't see what the big deal is supposed to be.......

I loved it... one of the funniest movies I've seen in awhile. It NAILED what it was like being in high-school during the 80s and 90s in so many subtle ways. It was fantastic. Napoleon was so deadpan and was actually a great physical comedian. It's not slapstick - it's just finding humor in the deadpan performance of Napoleon and the bizarre characters and situations he's surrounded by. It's like there's very few 'jokes' in the film - set-up and pay-off as opposed to stuff like American Pie or that Harold and Kumar movie where it's all set-up to punchline hitting you over the head in a rhythm. ND pretty much was funny the entire time (I laughed throughout the entire film almost.

Caught it yesterday myself and I loved it. Hard to explain the humour, but I think Trigger nailed it fairly well.

I think anyone comparing it to Wes Anderson or saying it's a ripoff is misguided. That's like saying Wes invented quirky characters and wearing vintage clothing, because that's all the films have in common.

Hard to recommend, but the theatre had a fairly diverse, big crowd, and it seemed to be a hit, everyone laughed at something different. There was even some applause at the end.

The bonus extra scene was ok.

Two months later. It was Kip and LaFonduh's wedding. the preacher asked if Lafonduh took Kip to be her husband. She said yes and half of her family drops their heads in shame. Kip says yes. Then Napoleon rides in on a horse wearing a Fabio style lace up pirate shirt thing. He can barely control the horse. He gets to the outdoor wedding and says, Sorry I'm late, I was taming a wild honeymoon stallion for you. He asks Deb to take a picture. He then high 5's Pedro and askes him if it was totally sweet or what. Pedro nods yes. Lafonduh gets on the horse and pulls Kip up behind her and they ride off.

I really enjoyed the entire movie--probably the funniest movie I've seen this year. Like some of you guys, I was really anticipating this one--almost as much as Zack Braff's Garden State. :)
