I always thought B-movie meant low-budget films with a lesser-known cast. Wouldn't that disqualify most of the movies you listed? Or am I wrong about the definition?

they can be low budget, but i was thinking more in lines of these modern big buget disaster movies where they are nothing but b movies in terms of plot and all, they just have good/great effects.

What can you say about a genre where Armageddon and Independence Day are considered "the best"?

i think the term B-movie is very much mis-used here. besides i think you named them all...so what is the point of a thread...

I like the old ones...you know the ones where they SFX had to really work in order for you to take is serously like The Towering Inferno, Earthquake, Airport 77, etc. Watching a CGI romp is about as exciting as watching the Lifetime channel.

The Poseidon Adventure was also a classic in it's day.

I have to take umberage with your usage of B-Movie. Everything you list is very much a headliner and about as far from a B movie as you can get.

The only B disaster movies I can think of are the Killer Bee knock offs after the Swarm came out, and the subgenre of Killer Insect movies (It happened at Lakewood Manner, Slugs, SSSSSSSssss and so on).
