Did ABC's buddies ever air?

I was reminded of this show and I can't remember ever seeing it. I remember alot of promos, I remember it getting bumped back alot, and I remember some protests; but did it ever make it onto the air?

Is that the show about the white guy and black guy who are best friends? I think it aired about twice, but that was way back in like 1995.

Hmm, upon searching IMDb... Dave Chappelle played the black guy!

yeah that's the show... I was doing a research paper and found it noteworthy that just 7 years ago this was considered odd enough to be the premise of a sitcom.

My only problem now is no one remembers it and I can't find any clips, ads, posters, creator, writer bios or anything on it.

I'd never heard of it before. Apparently, it was a spin-off of Home Improvement.

Chappelle makes fun of the premise of the show in his standup routine every now and then.

Yeah, actually I don't think it was a Home Improvement spinoff per se, I think it was a cheap attempt by ABC at some cross-promotion. I recall ABC promoting this show pretty heavily actually, and I guess they figured it would be a good idea to have these two characters first show up on an episode of their most popular sitcom at the time. What better way to do that than to get the two of them on an episode of "Tool Time"! I don't think they had anything to do with tools though (insert joke here), I think it was part of one of Tim's "What's the deal with women?" rants, and he "randomly" drew them out of the audience for some reason. Anyway, it was a pretty shameless plug for the new sitcom.

I recall the first episode being something where a rapper hired them to make a music video for him, but he didn't want "whitey" working on the video because he didn't "get" black people. And the assistant of the two guys was some redneck lady who was there because she was as different from the two guys as they were from each other... or something. Hmm, maybe all of this is part of the reason the show lasted about three episodes.

Man, I have no idea how I remember all this. Kill me now...
