Entire TechTV staff fired

http://leo.typepad.com/tlr/2004/05/comcast_fires_t.html

From Leo Laporte
I've just learned that G4 has fired the entire staff of TechTV.

Per the WARN Act (governing plant closings) all the employees of TechTV have been given 60 days notice. The San Francisco operation will be shuttered by July. 100 of the existing jobs will be posted for those willing to relocate to LA.

Outgoing COO, Joe Gillespie will say good-bye to the troops tomorrow. Incoming CEO Charles Hirschorn will say hello (and good-bye) on Monday.

No word on which shows G4 will keep or which hosts will be kept on.

AHHHHH!

I only watch Screen Savers and am only starting to get use to having Kevin in place of Leo! I sure hope they keep most of the hosts. Sucks for everybody else though.

Wow. That totally blows.

What could be the reasoning behind this? To alienate as many viewers as possible?

I still watch the Screen Savers off and on (but I still think it was at its best when it was still ZDTV and Kate and Leo hosted). Wonder if they will keep any of the shows...

Yea this is really stupid. Although I don't get TechTV back home, I love to watch it up here at college, but I think there was a little room for improvement. My idea of improving it would not be to fire everyone, that's just stupid and and stubborn. I will not watch this other channel, I don't care how good it is, they messed with a great one.

Wow, what a shocker. I only watch occasionally but I really liked the shows and (strange) personalities.

The blog entry clearly states "fired the entire staff of TechTV". I'd say it's a pretty good bet that all of the hosts are gone.

Help Out TechTV and Sign This Petition!

Approximately 285 employees of the TechTV network will lose their jobs in 60 days in conjunction with the merger into G4. Please sign this petition to protest this. There will be no more TechTV, doesn't that make you angry?

I thought it was G4 that was merging into TechTv and thus G4, as its currently known, wouldn't exist anymore.

Guess I 'll have to read up on it again.

And this will do what? Give The Man something to laugh about while he counts all the money he saves by firing all the high salary fools and hiring a bunch of minimum wage newbies? Right...

As much as this sucks, I saw it coming. Very very stupid on G4's part as TechTV is a far better channel. Oh well, when has corporate America ever made a GOOD decision?

Money money moneyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy, except you're gonna lose it all, now, as you've just alienated the entire fanbase, you dumbshits.

Touche!

He seems to be contradicting himself. Guess we'll have to wait to get the official news and see how it plays out.

What does Leo do now since he doesn't co-host Screen Savers?

I have Charter Cable in Burbank and they've already removed TechTV from the lineup and replaced it with infomercials.

It has been mentioned several times on the Tech TV messageboards that Comcast plans to rehire 80-100 of the laid off Tech TV staff.
