Need a 50" Plasma. Any recommendations?

Howdy,

I am going to buy a 50" plasma HDTV within the next couple of months. Anyone suggest a particular model?
I hear the panosonics are good.
I am willing to spend up to $5,500 OR $6,000 taxed & delivered

Much appreciated!

The Panasonics are awesome, probably the best in that price/size. The TH-50PX20U/P (consumer model) is $5600-5700 or so delivered. The TH-50PHD6UY (industrial model) is about $300-400 less. They're both based on the same panel, but the industrial one has a more industrial looking bezel (of course). The consumer one has built in HDMI, built in speakers, and NTSC tuner, but cannot take 720p through any of the inputs except for the PC input.

The Pioneer PDP-5040HD is another one you may like. It's slightly brighter, so the colors "pop" more. However, the black level, contrast, and shadow detail is not nearly as good.

Yes, there will be the new PX25 series in a few months. That's why the current models are so reasonably priced considering their quality.

Save yourself some money and get a TV with a better picture:

Sony - Grand WEGA 50" HD-Ready Rear-Projection LCD TV w/ DVI Input & 2-Tuner PIP

Personally, I have never been impressed with plasma TV's.

thanks for the recommends.

I wonder if it's worth waiting for the new panasonic model,
the TH-50PX25U

I wonder what the differences might be and if they are significant enough to wait.
